Reality show or talent show?
Aurora13

It strikes me X Factor has become more reality show than talent show? Just look at front page of this forum it is more about the judges than it is about the acts/talent that the show is supposed to create. All the press is about who is judging. Who is falling out? Who won't work with who? Whose career is being enhanced by judging on XF. Little more than the scripted reality shows with their characters doing as they are asked.

What is happening with the talent that the show has created or doesn't it really matter once series has finished?

the show started moving more towards the reality aspect 4 or 5 years ago imo

all the towie-esque scripted cut scenes and trying to create faux drama with "shock" eliminations at judges houses and beyond, before they even came up with the 6 chair challenge

as you say people seem more interested in who the judges are and their "celebrity" status then how qualified they are to be judges or what they actually might say once they are, again too much scripting, too much premeditation and not enough honesty about what they see in front of them

and in the midst of all this genuine talent is lost, who cares about talent when you can hide contestants behind elaborate staging with 100s of dancers and backing vocals or choirs

It's definitely more reality than talent show now, and I wouldn't mind just as long as it's entertaining. As even if it were a really serious, worthy talent show, there's no guarantee that the winner will get anywhere after the show is there?

But they should still lay back on making it too scripted for one thing. And all the sob stories have to go, as I think people are getting so tired of them, that they'll have the opposite effect on the audience soon..i.e. instead of encouraging the public to vote for them, they'll go the other way!

Its like Big Brother does karaoke. Its about the judges, their pantomime nonsense and a game of sob story top trumps between the contestants with 99.9% of the viewers not giving a monkeys chuff who wins.

Its so low rent and scripted these days it makes TOWIE look like Newsnight

I don't think it's either reality or talent. The reality part seems to be more about creating artificial 'spontaneous' moments and 'heart-breaking' stories that we later learn were prepared far in advance. Talent is not so much of the artist but more that of the agent who's managed to get their previously-signed artists put up for the X Factor gig in the first place and then keep conning us that we are really seeing undiscovered talent.

THIS

100% THIS

...and it's so disappointing to see what was once a really good talent show in 2008 plummet to what it's become now. Now, whenever X Factor is mentioned on TV I just sigh because it's become so hideous and predictable.

I already feel sorry for the winner of The X Factor 2016 eight months in advance.

Think about how many X factor winners have found mega stardom from the get go. Most fail from the moment they are crowned "winner".

It's got worse as the years have gone by. For a show about finding the X factor, It's strange to see such disregard for the winning competitor.

Personally, I always think it has always been a reality show rather than a talent contest, I just think the public has got more savvy to the ways of staged/set-up drama since the onslaught of reality crap we been exposed to in the last 10 years (e.g. Big Brother, Jersey/Geordie Shore, Housewives, TOWIE, MIC). Ironically, reality tv producers appear to be getting less innovative to combat this. It's like they're not even trying to make these shows appear natural anymore, so they're are coming off as parodies of themselves now. Or maybe the whole concept has just gone stale.

Just look at this forum though it's all about next series of the reality show. In past supporters of the singers in previous series would be posting away. Squabbling about who should have won still! Talking about what music they will be or have released.

As someone that's big on judging on vocal, performance, and genre (as obviously you have to be able to listen to their Music) I find it increasingly annoying how The X Factor in particular is becoming less and less about the Music and turning more into TOWIE.

And the people that have done well after the show's over normally tend to be talentless like Little Mix, Fleur, Olly, 1D etc while the actual talent from those years was left in the lurch in my view.

Little mix and Fleur talentless! LOL! That's hilarious you do make me laugh, some of your statements on this forum are so ridiculous - whom may I ask do you actually like

I'm sorry but it takes more than having a good vocal to make it in this industry you need to have a certain look or be able to write Incredibly well or perform - it's a tough industry and very shallow - that's life

Branding someone talentles coz you don't like them is very immature

But where is fleur now though!

I thought she was going to do brilliantly with the song she brought out but i havent heard anything since which is a shame as i think she's definitely got more of the.XF than any of the others ever had including Leona who although possesses a great voice, is still very dull....

Fleurs just come back from Germany she's busy doing her lipsy collection and apparently working on the 3rd single - she is being quiet right now she's also got a bunch of festivals coming up - she didn't have success with flop and flop but I can assure you she has been doing stuff. She's not putting out singles quickly but I blame her management for that they should just send her on tour tbh.

Little Mix has one vocalist (Perrie) and Fleur is just a dancer like Olly Murs, I'm sorry if these statements offend you because you like them.

And I'm not into Robots that churn out great vocal after great vocal either, I do like to think that most of my singers that I like are able to hold a basic note though, especially any Boybands or Girlbands that I like, I honestly don't want them being overly reliant on one singer.

And I think an Industry that's quite shallow is more immature than my opinion of their shallowness, but there you go.

Industry never used to be like that but with a world of towie big brother love island and made in Chelsea and magazines like glamour with with air brushing and such is like that's why
The industry is image over everything else, I don't think it's particularly the right thing but it is what it is and we all differ when it comes to what we think is talent but I don't label someone talentless coz I dont like them - each artist brings something to the table.

thanks for the reply. I really do hope that her next single will be as good as Sax....I didn't hear her last one though. But I agree, she should be out on tour at the moment. I just don't want her to go the way Ben Haenow has gone....

I watched american idol and xfactor straight after, the difference is embarrassing. Not just in the poor quality of the acts on xfactor but the whole thing is a pantomime.

I don't agree, to be honest. It's normal for people to start gossiping about the next series almost immediately into the new year, especially when we've not had any news/music from the previous series' winners/contestants.

I blame American Idol for why The X Factor has become what it's become as they love the shouty Diva acts as well as the MOR Rock.

It's a Talent show. Live shows happen in real time, that's all.

Once the audition stages are over, not sure how much Talent left. Even if there is, that will be compromised when the acts gets into their role / mould.
