Actors who died whilst in a soap

Sorry for the slightly morbid subject. Is there many characters who've died whilst their characters were still in a soap at the time of their death, or expected to return to the soap soon but died before they could? Maggie Jones, Betty Driver and Anne Kirkbride come to mind from recent history, is their any others? How did the soaps reflect their deaths?

Shirley Stelfox aka Edna in Emmerdale, no on screen death as yet

Alan Turner of ED also, when he was ill they had him off screen on a motorbike ride and he came back and died in his room overnight so not seen

Clive Hornby aka Jack Sugden, such a sad soap death, thinking of his on-screen fineral still brings a lump to my throat

Then of course the girl from Holby, I think she was called Laura, they had her win the lotto and go off on her travels on screen

Can't think of any Eastenders ones other than Jim Branning but he had been off screen virtually since his stroke so

Josh Ryan Evans in Passions
He went away on medical leave and died very suddenly from a heart defect. The actor had already filmed his character's death scene but Passions was a supernatural american soap and the plan was for the character to come back to life anyway as an angel. His character's death still aired the same way and there were many tributes to the character for the remainder of the run. In the show's final episode, lead actress Juliet Mills was seen holding his picture as a tribute.

The original actors to play Corrie's Blanche and EastEnders' Mark Fowler both committed suicide when they were still in their respective shows.

The background character in EE that had a market stall years ago died in real life. Cannot remember his name but in EE they said he won the lottery and went to Spain.

Laura Sadler, was really tragic what happened to her, especially as it was similar to how her character in Grange Hill died.

The actor who played Alf Roberts in Corrie died shortly after his character passed away.

Ina
She was an extra who ran the flower stall. Was good friends with Jean. She collapsed on set after having a cerebral haemorrhage and died two days later. Ina would move away off screen and Jean even held a going away part for her in the vic. Jean would also take over the flower stall, until her own exit a few years later.

Bernard youens who played Stan Ogden became ill whilst on Corrie. Hilda kept saying he was upstairs resting. He died whilst the character was on screen. It made the Hilda holding stan's glasses even more emotional and I'm sure Jean Alexander's tears were real.

Two more for Emmerdale
Toke Townley, who played Sam Pearson, died of a heart attack in September 1984. They killed Sam off onscreen two months later when his daughter Annie found him dead upstairs. The turnaround was fantastically quick as Toke made his last appearance in the episode beforehand due to advanced filming schedules.

Arthur Pentelow, who played Henry Wilks, died of (once again) a heart attack in August 1991, reportedly at the wheel of his car (some sources also say he was on his way to filming at the time). Again, turnaround was quite quick with Henry being laid to rest onscreen in October.

Oh yeah that was really sad, Timmy was one of the best parts of Passions.

Mike Reid and Clive Hornby were both very sad deaths.
Neither man was very old and Frank Butcher and Jack Sugden were legendary soap characters

Tosh from The Bill died before his character had stopped appearing on screen. However, The Bill wasn't that soapy back then.

Julia had no on screen death also. Think this would've been a better tribute to the actress and character.
