Bev Callard
Credit to her for going on this morning & talking about her depression. It was quite raw what she said, especially about how it's made her insecure on the corrie set. Once depression takes its hold it becomes a downward spiral & destroys any sense of well-being you've gradually built up. It was also interesting that Blackburn gave her the time off, maybe he's not such a bad guy after all?.

I don't see it interesting at all that he gave her time off. It happens all time. If an actor is suffering from personal issues. they are well within their right to be allowed time off.

Surely anyone is entitled to sick leave?

It's what anyone would do in the circumstances. And being an incompetent soap producer says nothing about how good or bad a person is.

Are actors employees or contractors? Because if she" s an employee there would be no issue with her taking time off for a genuine illness. If they' re self employed contractors obviously they don' t usually have the same rights but with ITV having so many actors it' s bound to have policies about absence. It' s good that her boss has been so supportive and understanding though. Sadly there will be many who put the show above all else and ignore the proper procedures. Hopefully that attitude isn' t widespread at ITV.

I think Bev Callard is a wonderful woman. Full credit to her for being so open and honest about the issues she faces.

Iv seen a few pieces in the paper that she has done, got to give credit to her for being open and honest.
I don't think anyone can truly understand what it is like till they have gone through it, even then it is different for everyone. |

I saw a bit of Corrie tonight for the first time in ages. I thought Liz/Bev looked amazing, the best she's looked in years. When that bloke she went for a coffee with assumed she was Amy's mother, it didn't seem such a stretch... well, maybe a bit but she is looking well. I wish her well in her battle against depression.

I had time off work for depression last year - any decent boss would do the same.

Do all companies give their employers time off work for depression? It's just an illness that could easily be taken advantage of. Anyone could claim they had depression. If they were that desperate for time off work they could even go to the trouble of going to the doctor and pretend their depressed. Not saying Bev is. Obviously she's very ill.

There's many that I u even suggested taking time off. I also have depression & I'd be too scared to disclose that to a stressed out manager who see's 'business' as priority. Bev's lucky that corrie is like a family unit in that respect. There's enough stigma around mental health without a bastard manager being involved.

That's why I said any decent boss. I'm really lucky with mine. I'm sorry you have depression too and you don't get support from your boss, I really do have every sympathy with you. It really is an awful condition and all of us who have it need all the support we can get, just to get through the days.
