EastEnders: Chrissie Watts or Janine Butcher?
Inspired by a thread on Walford Web, who do you prefer of the two multifaceted "victim or villain?" women—Charlie Brooks' incarnation of Janine (1999—2004, 2008—14) or the much-loved Mrs. Christine Watts (2004—05)?

Chrissie returning for a brief stint would be good.
I expect Janine will make a full time return at Christmas 2017. |

Janine
Janine has screwed nearly everyone over. A sign of a classic and well remembered soap bitch. Chrissie's actions didn't go as far as The Vic. |

This is a very tough question as they are both two of my favourite ever characters.
Chrissie was a truly magnificent character, and very few characters have had such a huge impact on the show in such a short space of time. In just 18 months she schemed her way into becoming landlady of the Vic, murdered the most famous EE character of all time, and went to war with the entire Mitchell family almost single-handedly. However, she was very much 'of her time'. Janine just edges it for me because of her longevity. We've seen her since she was a little girl and watched her grow into the woman she is today. She's a wonderfully well-rounded character, and even when she behaves despicably I can understand her motives, whether I agree with them or not. I really hope she returns to the show sooner rather than later. |

Can't say I really preferred either of them regardless of what stint or whatever so I didn't vote.

Both brilliant in their own way, Janine has longevity and this perhaps gives the character a slight advantage in that her character has been properly fleshed out but Chrissie was great too and had huge storylines in her relatively short time on the show, but to be honest her time on the show was so massive it's probably best to leave her to memory than bring her back and spoil her character, whereas, Janine could always return.
I thoroughly love both characters but I still think the Janine character will always work on the show, not sure there is a place for Chrissie though. Thanks |

Janine because she is a more rounded and long-running character.
I did like Chrissie but I think she's someone who worked well in a specific era of the show. Thank god that era had her is all I can say. |

I preferred Chrissie even though she was only around for a short time. I remember thinking to myself that she'd replaced Janine as my favourite bitch character. Janine is still great but her last stint made her boring at times which Chrissie never was. I wish they'd both return.

Janine i wouldn't even be able to compare Chrissie to being in the same league as Janine.

Her face was certainly more rounded.
![]() ![]() ![]() I do find many of your posts very funny SULLA but I think we have to be careful how we tackle these type of issues some may take it to heart particularly if they are vulnerable/ and/or depressed as many with eating disorders are. Thanks |

Why do you insist on taking the piss out of women's weight? I saw on another thread the other day you did the same with Sharon/Letitia Dean. I'm all for humour on DS but attacking characters/actresses for their weight I don't think is wise, and is probably why eating disorders are burgeoning out of control.

Thanks NB...How many who have voted for Janine, even saw Chrissie Watts who hasn't been seen for ten and half years. |
