There was something on TV the other day testing various products that tell you to consume within so many days of opening. Most of the products showed no more bacteria in them 5 days after being opened than they did when actually opened, in fact orange juice which tells you to consume it within 3 days had less later than it did on being opened.

I used milk with the same date 27th April this morning for my coffee, tastes fine, you can tell if something is ok by the look, smell and taste of it.
Was it the "Rip Off Britain: Food" programme?
I find with some orange juice it goes "fizzy" if its too long past its use by date but thats unpasteurised, so I guess it doesnt last as long.
I've had eggs (used as a coating for schnitzel) that were over 2 months past the use by date (I think?) and they were absolutely fine. I never pay attention to the "Consume within 5 days" on things like chorizo/salami either - its cured meat FFS.
