Iphone 4s wifi issues

Afternoon,

Over the weekend I noticed my iphone 4s was really slow when connected to home wifi. So slow that it often came off and used 3G. At first thought was an issue with broadband/wifi but wife phone and laptop worked fine.

I spoke to BT who did some checks and all ok and suggested I contacted apple. They did various checks/re-sets but still same. It works slow but ok when in room where router is but as soon as move away then can't refresh when go into apps/websites. It used to work fine all over house.

I come to work and use their wifi and works like normal, no issues.

Apple suggested that due to age of phone could be basically slowing down/packing up.

Has anyone else ever had issues like this and has any suggestions? I am thinking of just biting the bullet and buying a new phone but don't want to spend hundreds if going have same issues.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks,
Stereo Steve

Lovely little phone but getting on a bit. Suggest clearing any apps you don't use, clearing photos and music etc. Maybe refresh the whole thing with a factory reset after backing up? I can't see that it would work less well as it's older. Probably a software issue?

Someone who actually knows what they are talking about may give better advice.

Thanks for reply Steve.

I just not sure why works so poor at home but fine at work, which would indicate to me its my wifi at home which is the issue rather than phone, but then why is laptop and wife having no issues with wifi?!

Agree about lovely phone, that another reason why pained to get new one. Although looked at SE earlier and that seems nice,

If you have a record of the keys for all your wifi networks used you could try a network settings reset. It could sort the problem but it will wipe all networks you have stored.

Maybe it is this, a fix posted there too.

The motto might be, 'be wary of so called 'updates'. This might be one of the issues the current iPhone 4s 'Planned abscolescence' class action is for.

edit - maybe it is 'was for', a 'halting the wifi' reason has been thrown out of court.
