There is concern for Caroline Aherne, who has cancer, and her voice hasn't been heard Gogglebox for the past two weeks.

I adore Caroline. I so hope she is going to be OK.

It's sad about Caroline. She's had cancer a few times now.

I'm starting to click on DS and other news formats with morbid dread, at the moment. I am concerned about another young-ish well known and loved female who's not been in good shape but won't name her as it's tempting fate and very much hope I'm wrong. Seriously .
With regards to some of the above posts, Caroline was the one I was referring to. Wasn't going to name her for the reasons I gave but yes, she's been very ill. Like I said, hope to be wrong. Funnily enough, however, she was quoted in the tributes to Victoria Wood.

Comedian Caroline Aherne said Wood had a "rare gift of making us laugh at the mundanities of life with a humour that was never cruel and only ever warm. A true comic genius".

This from 2014:

Good luck with all this, Caroline. Another comedy great. xx

Ken Dodd, Rolf Harris, Bruce Forsyth and Prince Philip. If at least one of them's not snuffed it by year's end, I'll be amazed.
If only. Hopefully he is still locked up when the time comes.

Celebrities are like you and I. They have two arms, two legs, a head and are succesptible to illness and succumb to death at the end of the day like everyone else. They make a living out of being in the public eye which makes you think that you know them but you don't. It's their job. You give them quite a nice living by buying their CDs, concert tickets, DVDs etc but they will eventually die like the rest of us. So what if a couple of them have died recently, it's just the same as Elsie from the Co-Op and Madge from the hairdressers popping their clogs in a short space of eachother, there's nothing unusual in that. These things are sad, yes, but please get a grip.

Fair dos. That might be your take on things but why tell others how to think and behave? You were making a reasonable point until you threw in 'so what' and 'get a grip'. Some of these people have been iconic in peoples' lives. For example, I grew up watching Victoria Wood and her humour made me laugh in dark times. Maybe not your cup of tea but there again, I wouldn't tell you how you should react. Personally speaking, I haven't lost my grip. I have far more personal things to get worked up over. However, it is sad to see some of our cultural icons get very sick or die and most people in this thread are simply reflecting that. Hardly mass hysteria. Compassion doesn't necessarily have boundaries. You can care about people who you don't know personally. It doesn't necessarily equate to compassion for those you do but it's real enough.

Just found out Adrienne Corri has died. I remember her from a number of horror films.

If missing the point about the difference between the anonymous 'Elsie and Madge' whose deaths, while sad, impact only the few that know them, and well-known and much-loved public figures who, through their talent and personality, impact hugely on people's lives in so many significant, beautiful and profound ways, were an Olympic sport, you'd win gold.

Actor David Swift died two weeks ago. If you don't know the name, you'll know the face. A solid British character actor starring in everything from The Avengers to Day of the Triffids.

First time I've heard of it. RIP.

I instantly recognised his face as the guy in the Rising Damp episode The Good Samaritan's who was depressed and who Rigsby went onto the roof to talk down!

He is the brother of Clive Swift, Hyacinth Bucket's husband Richard in Keeping Up Appearances.

Well I'm 34. I expect there are people you know that I don't. Like who's on Goggle Bocks.

Or whatever they call it.

So has Frank Sinatra. I actually don't think it's funny.

Neither do I. It annoys me that people don't bother to check things before they repost. I never realised how stupid people were until I went on Facebook.
