Just a day after daughter Carrie Fisher passed away, Debbie Reynolds suffered a fatal stroke on December 28 2016.
So Carrie's mother died the day after she did

A Year Ends by Gusto Brunt

And so, it ends
The year, my friends
It ends how it begun
Better believe it, my son

Too many celebs died
They tried to hide
But Death got them all
They heard the call.

But not let's all be glum
Feel lucky, my chum

You're still alive and well
Go out and tell
The world you're still here
And raise a glass of beer.

Yes, it's been a bad year for celebrity deaths this year. A number of major icons we've lost.

I had a strange feeling last week that in the closing several days of 2016 we would lose a veteran male British celebrity aged in their 70's or 80's. This hasn't come true yet(although Rick Parfitt who died on Christmas Eve aged 68 just narrowly missed out of that age range). But there's still two days left of 2016 yet. Not that I'm hoping there's any more celebrity deaths in the next two days.

there are some rumours on celeb sites that there is a 24 news blackout in the UK about a death that will be the most prominent death of them all. I really hope not.

It will continue as we have increasing numbers of celebrities who are reaching an age where death is a real possibility. Celebrity began in the 60s with a few exceptions and as time goes by that number multiplies ten fold.

There have been some internet rumours circling today about the death of a very major figure - but thankfully they are untrue.

thank heaven for that. I was thinking it was Prince Philip or something! As another poster said earlier, there are far more celebs now at an old age so there will be more deaths. However, this year, the most famous celebs dying are the younger ones that have come as a real shock to people.

Given its now made a major UK paper its probably ok to provide a link - which provides the source of the unfounded rumour.

2016: Year of the Celebrity Deaths?

Triple . Mortuus, the God of Death, has indeed been rather too busy this year.

This hasn't gone unnoticed and even the serious statistics programme, More or Less, covered this very issue: Have more famous people died this year?

Have the BBC ever had to do two separate Obituary programmes for their end of year review before?
