Ladies, gentlemen and all others.... I present the new Blink 182 single
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yGipyel-3I

Let me know if you hear it on the radio. We'll see if it makes it into the top 20.

That got me thinking of Good Charlotte. Their single "Makeshift Love" was released 6 months ago.

It's almost impossible for s rock band to go top 20 now cmon Radiohead only made 85 as they rarely release with 7 days sales . It made the iTunes top 30 but dropped off fast Rafio 1 have played it but it's not playlistef yet

The Shapeshifters were quite big back in 2004, with their brilliant single Lola's Theme going to #1 in the UK and, for me, being one of the the few decent tracks in a year that was predominantly awful in terms of music and what did well. From what I can remember they released a follow up that didn't do as well, but I still hear Lola's Theme quite regularly and often wonder what happened to them?

In 2008, after four years with Positiva Records, the Shapeshifters signed to Defected Records. Their first release for Defected was "Treadstone" in April 2008, and this was subsequently followed by "Chime", a re-work of the Orbital track

In July 2009, the Shapeshifters released the Young Dubs EP which included "Sideways" and "Nocturnal". Throughout 2009, the Shapeshifters also remixed Natalie Imbruglia's single ("Want") and collaborated with Frankie Knuckles on "The Ones You Love" which was released on Nocturnal Groove. They also remixed Candi Staton ("Musical Freedom") and compiled the digital compilation, Nocturnal Grooves: Vol. 2 – Mixed by the Shapeshifters as well as working alongside Empire of the Sun and Kleerup remixing "We Are the People" and "Longing for Lullabies". The Shapeshifters first release of 2010 was Summerdayze 2010 – Mixed by the Shapeshifters—a compilation album released to coincide with their Australian tour in January 2010 and further singles such as "Helter Skelter" and "She Freaks" followed. Within the year, both "Helter Skelter" and "She Freaks" gained over 1,000,000 views on YouTube. In 2010, the Shapeshifters remixed "Broken Arrow" by Pixie Lott and "Looking Forward" by Jason Chance. In April 2010, the Shapeshifters began the Nocturnal Groove Radio Show, a weekly radio show broadcast through a range of international radio stations across the world, which is also available as a podcast on iTunes and is available to stream from the Nocturnal Groove website and the Shapeshifters' pages on social networks like Facebook and SoundCloud.

The Shapeshifters have also worked on productions and remixes for George Michael, Faithless, Frankie Knuckles, Christina Aguilera, Moby, Leona Lewis, Todd Terry and Danny Howells. In 2011, the Shapeshifters released "Waiting for You"—their first collaboration with Shermanology—and remixed "I'll Take You There" from Frankie Knuckles's Director's Cut project. As well as remixing Human Life's "In It Together", the Shapeshifters also released another remix album titled Nikki Beach – In the House: Mixed by the Shapeshifters via Defected Records.

As DJs, the Shapeshifters continue to release records & tour the world and return to Ibiza for an Impressive 10th consecutive year at Pacha & Space in 2016
There you go - from their wiki

Here is 2 singles they released in 2012. Shame their 2008 change of record label finished their fame - but they are still successful enough.

Shake Shake
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NVqMqbL5qI

Only You
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTh81-9rD2Y

Only you Little Boots Discotheque mix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg1rFYUXbt0

They aren't bad if you like house music, but, their new stuff doesn't sound very chart friendly - infact Shake Shake is more like 90s video game music.

Thanks for that. Yeah it does seem to be the case that they peaked at their beginning, for it is their debut single for which they are associated, some twelve years on from its release. But it's nice that Lola's Theme still gets airplay.

Brian Wilson is touring the UK this month in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Pet Sounds (it was released 50 years ago on Monday) and released his album 'No Pier Pressure' last year. He's been touring consistently since the end of the 90's with his awesome live band, The Beach Boys as part of their 50th anniversary (with Brian back at the helm) did a world tour and released the album 'That's Why God Made The Radio' in 2012.

According to Wiki their last studio album was released in 2012. They're still touring though.
I thought their last studio album, La Futura, was superb, the best they've released for a long time.

As for still touring, i believe they are playing a minor pop festival in Somerset next month, somewhere near to Glastonbury I believe...

I really need to check out David Sylvian again. Japan were one of my favourite groups in the 80s and I love his voice.

A few months back I would have mentioned Colin Vearncombe who was of course Black in the 80s with a few massive hits. Last year, thanks to Spotify, I found some of his newer material and had seen he was regularly touring. Having seen Black live back in 87/88 I realised I would love to track him down again. Sadly he became one of this year's tragic losses when he died following a car crash in Ireland. Such a huge loss.

Gina G released this in 2011 - actually pretty good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK1n6A5dW-w

She was meant to release a follow up "Set the Night on fire" in 2012 but due to personal circumstances she wasn't able to finish the video. Apart from that performance at G_A-Y shes been quiet since. Wonder what happened?

Some recent Whigfield

Alcazar (Crying at the Discoteque) released this album (album sampler link) in 2009. It had 2 CDs now (featuring new songs) and then (a compilation of past hits)

Tina Arena - famous for her single "Chains" released an album in 2015. This is the lead single from its released just a few months ago. It stunning, magical, blissful. Talent like this is absent from our charts today.

This is her 11th album

Kula Shaker released an album this year.

All Saints released a new album this year.

Rick Astley has a new album in June.

Suede released a new album this year,.

Duran Duran released a new album last year.

One of my fave tracks of last year was Duran Duran's Only My Dreams

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G26Mp37Ct54

Great Duran Duran song!

A-ha released a new album last year.

Another of my fave tracks from last year was the track Cast In Steel (also the name of the album).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL779EjNA5A

Classic a-ha!

None of the single released from those albums hit the top 40 singles chart. Streaming sales have had a huge impact on older groups/singers. Much harder to chart since streaming took over as the dominant indicator of what's popular.

If you follow them on social media, you'd know the likes of KT Tunstall, Sara Barelles, Amy Mcdonald etc all still tour. Otherwise you'd probably have no idea.

I heard the single Viva Love by ABC on Radio 2 for the first time today and rather liked it.
I didn't know they were back together! A quick Google revealed that this is the first single from Lexicon of Love II, a follow up to their classic album, which I remember buying in Woolworths back in the day!
i look forward to hearing more from it.

Just found out Verve singer Richard Ashcroft has a new song! Wow - so many older artists/groups still making music! Time for George Michael to release a new album. C'mon, George! I'm sure he has some decent material waiting to come out.

Maybe it's time for an Oldie chart. Mark Goodier can do the rundown.

Crystal Waters (Famous for Gyspy Woman...shes homeless....la da dee la da da la da dee la da da) Still sings. She featured on this track last year. Infact she features on a lot of those dj tracks where they make a good 2 minute song then add 5 minutes of repetitive music on each side!
https://youtu.be/64eOdE3vwHA?t=2m45s

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Waters

Chesney Hawkes got to number 48 in the charts with "Another Fine Mess" 11 years ago and has been quiet since.

Simple Minds released this album in 2014 (Don't You Forget About Me)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zETlnOtVAY

The Waterboys (You saw the whole of them moon) relased an album 2 years ago called "Modern Blues" This single - November Blues is from it. Very smooth and reminds me of The Eagles.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN-EmQ4Aa6Y

Corinne Bailey Rae (Put your records on circa 2006) has a new album out.....THIS MONTH
This is the lead single
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iibMNsSRCE
this is the album playlist
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iib...JmMo_U9qD0HDFr

I look forward to discovering more of what the mainstream charts wanted us to forget. Are you surprised by any I just mentioned?

The Bangles - famous for "Walk like an Egyption" & "eternal flame" were thought to have dwindled away before the 90s. Your jaw will drop to the floor on discovering their 2011 album "Sweetheart Of The Sun"
