That isnt a malicious post in anyway. Why does it need your slightly angry response?
I dont think anyone minds that Paralympians are being mentioned frequently and if you are new to a thread it doesnt mean that you should read every post before making your own. Telling someone "not to forget" the Paralympics when they themselves have referenced it elsewhere is borderline ridiculous whether malicious or otherwise. |

The list will be narrowed down to a short list of (I think) twelve and then a final (I think) six.
My expected six on the final list would be: Mo Farah Laura Trott (the token female that's always included now since the scandal of a few years ago when the short list contained no women at all) Gareth Bale (there's always a footballer) Nick Skelton Andy Murray Lewis Hamilton (if he wins the F1 world championship) Of that short list I would vote for Mo Farah. Team of the year: Leicester City Overseas personality: Usain Bolt (still the biggest global sportsman AND personality by a mile). Just my opinion of course. And no, I'm not a betting girl. |

Laura Trott - Token female ? Yeah because she's not done anything worthy of earning a nomination has she ? Not like she's won Olympic gold ( again ) and like she has a terrific personally
There isn't always a footballer. There hasn't been one for a few years, because it's hard for individuals who participate in a team sport to stand out enough to merit it. They either have to really, really stand-out, or there's less competition that year. There has been a lot of competition again this year, but it would be unfair if footballers never made the short-list. On the night, a great many additional athletes will get a name check, with their achievements mentioned, but I wonder if there is any merit in having an inbetween category. You'll have the final 12-14 who would be on the short-list you could vote for, but then another list of those who were on the long-list. I'm not sure what would be gained by it. It might be nice for those who make the long-list, but potentially disappointing for those who don't. |

If you are going to pick a footballer then Jamie Vardy could be a better bet but i think they will mention him when Leicester City win the Team of the year So i think the shortlist will be like this Andy Murray Mo Farah Laura Trott Jason Kenny Max Whitlock Adam Peaty Nick Skelton Alistair Brownlee Nicola Adams Danny Willett Jade Jones And a Paralympian |

If, and it is a BIG IF, Ladbrokes were picking the 12 nominated athletes it would be the 12 below ( of course this is before the Paras start )
Murray Mo Trott Skelton Whitlock Kenny Bale Hamilton Joshua Vardy Wiggins No place for Willett, Froome, Adams, Dujardin, Brownlee, Rose etc |

If it was the Sky Bet list that was the actual nominations i would be very disappointed. For me Bale, Joshua and Vardy should not be on the list. |

I guess it depends if you consider winning another gold medal on the track more worthy than winning another Tour de France with regard to the Froome/Wiggins debate..
Also I think Bale will be on there for his impact with Madrid and Wales - more so than Vardy who was excellent but might be seen more as part of a successful team. Willet or Brownlee ahead of Hamilton maybe? |

I think that the BBC will include at least two paralympians but your list is quite good. But think of the names that you feel will miss out. Firstly there is Tour de France winner Chris Froome, then there is a possible F1 World Champion in Lewis Hamilton. What about Masters Champion Danny Willett or Olympic Golf champion Justin Rose. The list goes on.
Just what a fantastic year it has been for British Sport. I'd like Justin Rose to be included. I've always thought of golf as more of a pleasant pastime than a spectator sport (am I really the only person who has watched the TV cameras pan across a grey sky and wondered where on earth the ball was?). But he came across so well in various interviews about watching other sports, meeting athletes and generally having the time of his life at the Olympics, I thought I'd check out how he was doing. To my surprise, I was completely gripped and on my way to becoming a regular fan - he should get some sort of gold star prize from TPTB in golf for services to the sport, if nothing else. Having said that, I also want to include about a gazillion other people. Usually, I'd want to be on the committee to tell them what's what in my armchair athlete way, but this time I'm happy to let them get on with their very tough task - I'd barely know where to start! |

If Sarah Storey overtakes Tanni Grey's medal haul then she surely has to be on the list, as she has had an outstanding career in two sports.

Andy Murrays loss does somewhat open the competition up somewhat. Had he won the US Open he would have without doubt been the winner. He is still the favourite but it will be a little closer now you would imagine

Is nick skeletons back story better than lee Pearsons ??? There will more likely be 3 great worthy candidates from equestrian sport , which makes the short list ?????
Also trott - kenny - froome and storey the cycling vote will be split if all 4 make the list Also With Murray out of the us open I hope it's the year of the MO BOT

I think the Paralympics could have a bit of an impact on the short list, so it's very hard to try and narrow it down until we know who has done well in these games.

Based on previous votes, I just can't see Mo winning it...unless the public suddenly think 'this chap has done rather well, about time he won SPOTY'.

he will surely get the athletics vote we all know the Jess Ennis hill votes are high for a start and yes he does deserve it , a worthy worthy winner - to me it just looks a perfect fit seeing him pick that award up on the night , admittedly he normally picks up golds but I'm sure a large silver camera will look good as well

But if he does not win it, then they might give it to Mo as the public will feel like somebody else should win it instead |
