Storey, Simmonds, Jones all 150/1

Big change for Alistair Brownlee since he helped his brother over the line at the weekend”

Wow i cant believe the odds can change just because you helped your brother crossed the finishing line because he could not do it by himself

Maybe Mo Farah should have done the same thing and he might been favourite to win Sports Personality

At this rate, with so much success, the bookies should be taking bets and offering odds on just who will be on the shortlist, nevermind winning the award!

Ridiculous odds on Johnnie Peacock when Kadeena Cox and Sarah Storey are far more likely than him to be nominated.

The odds are more likely manipulated I can see storey on the podium but the bookies wouldn't want you to think that would they ?

I've checked on oddschecker and I see that brownlee is clear favourite around 4/1 but does not show up on the percentage pie chart of most popular bets ? If a contender went from 150/1 to 4/1 surely that would register if SERIOUS MONEY was placed ? We're has the real money gone then ? None of it makes sence

Odds are based on what money is put on people. If Sarah Storey was a serious contender to be top 3 why would they offer such huge odds ? They have obviously taken very few bets on her, thats how it works

He should have been that high up anyway, he always gets overlooked, retaining your title in such a tough sport >>

Personally I think triathlon is a far harder sport, as that is basically three sports all rolled together.

Does brownlee's achievement fall under the banner of athletics or triathlon ?

It falls under triathlon. As it is an amalgamation of Swimming, Cycling and Running it is impossible to class as anything else.

That's interesting because if you go to oddschecker site they do not have triathlon as the winning sport - it does not exist in the betting ? But athletics does and is favourite followed by tennis then cycling then equestrian and then a few more BUT no triathlon ?

Interesting all the sportspeople on that list are on the drift and you can even get 3/1 on Murray and the only sportspersons who have betting activity on are - bale - Joshua - vardy and brownlee , I get brownlee activity but the other 3 ?

If your looking on the betfair exchange it will be people sorting their books and taking a position. Lots of people greening up, locking in a profit etc etc.

Anyone but Jessica Ennis-Hill.. Motivated by sponsorship only...(believed her own press) (Ray Readon's lovechild). Golden girl of 2012 ...now relegated to a very tarnished pile of brass . She won silver but was disgusted because it will affect her earnings... bugger all interviews since..

So because she got a silver at Rio she has suddenly failed? She achieved lots in Rio considering she has had a child since London and has practically had to start again in order to get to Rio. The Silver is a huge achievement. She hasn't done many interviews since Rio as the focus is on the Gold medal winners. Think about it, there havent been many interviews for the Silver or Bronze medal winners. How many interviews has Katherine Grainger done since the games? None. Does that mean that Grainger is disgusted? No it doesnt.

More than likely people greening up, ie those who laid him at lower prices a while ago. Its also a good way to release funds which may have been tied up until December.

Anyway I've not actually heard that many interviews from any of our athletes TBH.

On the other hand, Tom Daley is criticised for going out in public despite 'just' winning bronze.

It was obvious from the post-race interview that Jess is considering retirement, and was planning to take some time off to see how she felt. There's no need for her to give interviews in this time.

A lot of our athletes have now won gold, or became first time medallists, so it's nice for them to get some of the attention before sports journalists turn their focus back to football.

As for Ali Brownlee, he's always been popular, but the question has been whether he'd get onto the short-list. I think people have decided he'd got a good chance this year, and therefore has a good chance of going top 5. IMO, the shortlist will be made up of people we're still talking after the event, and he's one of them. Obviously, the recent attention helps, but more than that, I think it underlines that the brothers are popular with the British public, and that they'll be welcome on any chat show sofa, and therefore will still be talked about for the rest of the year.

Wouldn't it be better Ali brownlee was picked for his gold in Rio Rather than finishing 3rd in Mexico the most popular recent event ?

All these track & field athletes share something in common apart from winning sports personality - none have won more than 2 Olympic golds and some have not won a Olympic gold medal at all !!! Now obviously there all retired from the olympics like MO is now but it seems there is a name missing from this list , a name that's doubled the achievements of every past sports personality winner you see above - I wonder who that could be ??? Sounds like a crime to me sorry I'm banging my mo drum sorry

The joke is he's now favourite , the everlasting impression of pushing your brother over the line and coming 3rd in Mexico ! Whatever happened before matters nothing apart from that one moment , if he had carried a stranger over the line then IDE feel different but your own brother ? What was he gonna do , run past him ? It's a natural instinct to help your brother / sister , like I said if it were a stranger then it would be more powerful just like in Rio with d'gastino and hamblin wich is a far far more powerful moment same scenario but strangers - does that make them overseas personality favourites ?
