Personally I think triathlon is a far harder sport, as that is basically three sports all rolled together.
Oh that is who I meant lol. It didn't bold Owen's text properly. Although Mo would be a fair winner as well.

Fatima whitbread
Liz colgan
Lingford Christie
Jonathan Edwards

Kelly Holmes
All these track & field athletes share something in common apart from winning sports personality - none have won more than 2 Olympic golds and some have not won a Olympic gold medal at all !!! Now obviously there all retired from the olympics like MO is now but it seems there is a name missing from this list , a name that's doubled the achievements of every past sports personality winner you see above - I wonder who that could be ??? Sounds like a crime to me sorry I'm banging my mo drum sorry
Hannah Cockcroft won three gold medals on the track, so more than Mo, should that not make her more of a favourite then him??

Laura Trott, Andy Murray and Jamie Vardy will probably be the three with the most amount of votes. You never know, maybe Vardy could do it.

no because you are not taking account of the quality or depth of the competition

mo farah has to beat anyone in the world

hannah cockcroft only has to beat the people that are in the same classification as she is

No offence but vardy is never gonna be on that shortlist , sorry - I see activity on vardy-Joshua - brownlee And trott is drifted out to 10/1 it all looks messed up to me , who knows the thinking behind it , I'm lost in the logic

No that is wrong, Mo only has to beat people in his classification, as I don't remember him racing or running (call it whichever one you wish, or think is suitable) against people in wheelchairs, or people for example like Richard Whitehead.

Mo just runs against people like him, (who have two legs), so no real difference to people like Cockcroft or anyone else being put into different classifications.

Hopefully that will be the case, (touches the biggest amount of wood that I can find next to me!) as it would be great to see "The Hurricane" keep up her winning streak!

no it isn't wrong

there are no restrictions on who can run against mo farah

there is a finite classification that cockcroft has to compete against

i refer you to my earlier argument that based on your position the winners of the UK deaf football league should be considered the equals of the winners of the EPL

your last sentence is bizarre even by your standards

I have no problem with you banging your mo drum - unless it means something other than I think it means

But I was slightly confused about this 'Lingford Christie' person. He sounds like he should be in a comfy armchair at his Jermyn Street gentleman's club, not going around winning medals. I'm also not sure about Liz Colgan - did she drop the 'Mc' as some sort of feminist statement?

Sorry, I know it's not good form to suggest people have made typos but the first one in particular put an amusing image in my mind.

To be fair if you take the term Sports Personality literally then Alistair Brownlee does stand a good chance. But the award actually is just mainly about achievement rather than personality. The Mexico incident does help Alistair Brownlee no end, from being someone who probably wasnt going to get a nomination to now being a front runner the whole event has both boosted his chances of winning and increased his profile as well. I wouldnt be annoyed if he won what so ever. This year all nominees will be genuine contenders for the award. When was the last time you could say that?

2012??

I can't quite remember the final list from that year, but surely there must have been a heck of a lot of competition for the main award?

An incredibly strong list for 2012. But if McIlroy had done what he did in 2012 this year he wouldnt be nominated. That is how competitive 2016 is. This years list will eclipse the 2012 list. No one would have thought that at the start of the year.

many people are still expecting the much lower profile Willett to make the list this year though, so...

also, you have to take in to account the calibre of the people that didn't make the short list in 2012. I don't think there are that many more names in contention this year, especially when you consider outside of the Rio it hasn't really been a vintage year for British sport overall. No doubt it will be tough to get a shortlist together though.

Win his 2nd major, and become the youngest player to do so. Become world number 1 and guide Europe to Ryder Cup ? I think he would

If Justin Rose gets the winning point in the Ryder Cup, then that will be Willet well and truly off of the list.

I wasn't picking holes in anyone's opinion or grammar, just pointing out that Appledash wasn't getting people's names right, and that a couple of them had conjured up quite funny images in my - admittedly quite odd - imagination. I'd intended it in good humour; sorry if it didn't come across that way.

And, by the way, I'd love to get out more 'mate' but my medical conditions make it quite a challenge. And I wonder why I need to do so more than any other person here who uses a silly message board as a way of attempting to have a light-hearted chat with people with similar interests?

Sorry to hear you have a medical condition , it was a lucky guess that you didn't get out much so I'm off to guess some lottery numbers - keep taking the tablets .

Don't take it personally, that FM seems incapable of disagreeing with anyone without resorting to childish personal insults.

Interesting to see how quickly Brownlee has closed down in the betting markets, I expect there will be a little bit of a drift at some point. I am not sure I can see him winning, but 3rd place is possibly in reach. I think when push comes to shove, Murray and Farah will be a clear of the pack. I imagine Brownlee would benefit a lot from the votes of the casual audience on the night though.

Just ignore them, not worth the bother from my experience.....
