How do you think the BBC passed him over ?? he came second.

remember this is a democracy, the public decide so whether we like the result or not its what has won the day with those who voted.

The BBC didnt pass him over, the general voting public did. If the BBC had passed him over then he would never have been nominated. If there is a British F1 World Champion then they will be nominated.

Also it isnt about whether or not it was Lewis' 1st world title or his 3rd, what matters are his achievements in that year.

If you think the BBC was not going to recognise a British F1 world champion at the 3rd time of asking then your not really getting it !

Darren you can not honestly believe that the voting process is 100% trusted every year ? that was clear this weekend on strictly ? Or X factor or big brother !!! IDE love to think the score count is true but some years it's more likely quite off , you must realise that .

Lewis Hamilton won his 3rd World Title in 2015. That year he DIDN'T win SPOTY so you're not making sense again.

No I don't. If it was bent then OFCOM would be on it like a shot...not to mention the BBC hating papers.

That's not going to happen this year though.

Yeah it looks like spring at the very earliest doesn't it ? Joshua is the sort of boxer that could do well in SPOTY as he is very likeable out of the ring

Could definitely see him winning in the future if he wins the big fights.

And also would be a British heavyweight champion (who doesn't spout a lot of homophobic remarks).

Given the way Hamilton has behaved the last few days I'm not sure he'll be nominated even if he wins the title again.

He has behaved in questionable ways before and still been nominated. Its the same thing with Hamilton. If he wins then it is all about how brilliant he is and if he loses it is all about how the team have let him down and how it is never his fault.

I can't see Hamilton being on the list no matter what he does from here on in.

I think Murray will win as the cycling vote will be split.

Still tickets available for the Event in Birmingham. Managed to get two yesterday but they are not cheap!

You don't know that. That's suspicion in your head and in days of high regulation I personally doubt if any telephone vote run by the nation's broadcaster is anything but 100% legit.

I thought this thread had been quiet recently. I then saw the words "Inactive Member", so that figures....

Anyone suggesting they are going to rig a phone vote in this day and age is on the wind up.

Thanks for those odds clever3000, it does seem like it will go as I assumed, that only people from Rio will be on the final shortlist, (so ruling out the exceptions above in Bale and Joshua) as they are just the most deserving of people this year.

I wouldn't put too much store by those odds, Kadeena Cox is a near certainty for the shortlist but is below several people (Jordanne Whiley, Aled Davies, Michael Bisping) who definitely won't be nominated.

Andy Murray is favourite and that is for winning Wimbledon not the Olympic title. Had Murray not won SW19 and had a poor year at the other Grand Slams but won Olympic Gold he would not be top of the betting or a strong contender for a nomination.

The fact is he did win the gold medal, so why try and down play it?

I am not trying to down play it at all, show me where I have ????

I am saying it is not just down to what they do in Rio as you seem to be advocating. Had Murray won Wimbledon and not even gone to Rio he would be bookies favourite so don't try and put it all down to the Olympics and Para's.

I am not putting it down to Rio alone, I am saying only people who where there should be on the list for their achievements, and Andy Murray was there won gold, and putting his year into context means including both his gild and his other victories.
