It was 12 last year so Sale is wrong ( again ) to say it's increasing from 10

It's usually ten but was increased to twelve at the last minute after Tyson Fury unexpectedly beat Klitschko, not sure who else was added to make the even number.

Having probable Joshua Vs Klitschko fight on December 10th (after nominations but before ceremony) means BBC have to nominate him in case he wins but would be pretty awkward if he loses.

Is Vardy really not in with a shout at all? I thought he'd get a big vote from football fans who aren't Welsh who'd back Bale. 100/1 looks worth a sly punt.

The other addition was Murray. He was added after Britain won the Davis Cup.

They did that with Ricky Hatton in 2007. The ceremony was the day after his fight with Mayweather.

He'll be nominated for becoming world champion this year. I have a feeling the Klitschko fight won't happen this year.

It would be pretty embarrassing if he had already lost the title before the ceremony.

Well actually I'm quite active BUT I've taken a back seat on this thread and it's been quite flat and dull without my pearls of wisdom ! That's me being funny
Anyway it's fair to say Joshua will not be winning , it troubles me when I saw the Joshua odds tumble on the strength a few doughnuts believed the rubbish Hearn was spouting , sheep and there money

It's looking now the betting market is a 3 way race But we all recognise And see with certainty that Murray / farah are on that short list that's a given but the next 10 places are up in the air , that's going to be the challenge for the panel ,I'm going to say just a solo gold is not enough ? I realy can see brownlee not making the cut but maybe a shock inclusion of Jamie Murray !!!!

Of course Jamie Murray is going to make the shortlist....and I've just seen Peppa Pig fly past my window.

Hope to god Mo Farah doesn't win after his no-show at the Olympic parades in Manchester and London. All that taxpayers'/lottery money and he couldn't spare a day or so to say thank you to the fans.

Double Gold might not be enough, but I still confident in my thinking that all of the nominations will be of people who competed in Rio, in either the Paralympics or the Olympics.

There will be at least couple of non-Olympians, there were other sports taking place the rest of the year as well. Chris Froome for one will be nominated for winning the Tour de France rather than his Bronze medal. Murray would have been nominated for winning Wimbledon again even if he hadn't retained his Olympic title.

Jonathan Rea probably ought to be nominated for winning back to back World Superbike titles as Carl Fogarty was but I can't see it happening.

Part of me wishes Michael Bisping would get a nomination, but MMA being recognised in this country isn't going to happen for a long time.

rubbish. Mo does his fair share of fan thanking throughout the year. Attends many events. As for the lottery funding, it isn't compulsory to do the lotto. Mo is a double double world and Olympic champion, if he wins he deserves it

Well Jason Kenny/Laura Trott should be out of contention then!

Don't think they were at the parades!

I will be shocked if the list is not just of people who competed in Rio, either in the Paralympics or Olympics, such was the extraordinary level of success we had in both games.
You mentioned Froome and Murray due to their other successes, and that is true, but they also competed in Rio, and achieved success there, so my point still stands.

This is just an extraordinary year, with so many people achieving so much, that it would be hard to include non Paralympians or Olympians.

I agree with you there on both points, he should be at least talked about on the show, but due to MMA not really being seen as even on a level par as say with boxing, (which gets far too much press coverage in comparison), then sadly I don't see him getting the recognition that he fully deserves.

Is Mo even eligible for Lottery Funding? If you have other earnings above a certain level, you don't get any more from them. Mo earns money from sponsorship, advertising and prize money, which I bet takes him over the threshold, at least for personal funding. He'll get the benefit of the system, and the team who made sure the British part of the Olympic village was functioning properly.

And as others have said, there were quite a lot of big names that didn't attend the parades for a variety of reasons. I know Trott and Kenny were on honeymoon, and Murray was on a flight back from competing in China. To be honest, I think it was nice that some of the slightly less famous, but equally hard-working athletes got attention.

True. Mo won't have received lottery funding for several years. It's means tested on a sliding scale if you have annual earnings above £35K a year. e.g. If you are entitled to £20K lottery funding but have outside earnings of £50K you'll only actually receive £5K from the lottery.

Very true and I doubt they all went down to London having been in Manchester.

Infact I don't think Wiggins has been to one since 2008 so his 2012 SPOTY success should be scrapped.

As Sparkle says it gave a chance for our winners from less high profile sports to get a cheer and moment in the limelight.

Laura Trott 10/1
Gareth Bale 14/1
Nick Skelton 25/1
Max Whitlock 33/1
Jason Kenny 66/1

Dujardin, Froome, Laugher, Vardy, Hamilton, Adams all 100/1

Peaty, Davies, Wiggins, Frampton, Storey, Willett, Simmonds, Reid, Jones, Peacock, Whiley, Pearson, Bisping, all 150/1

Kadeena Cox 200/1
Justin Rose 300/1
Maro Itoje 300/1
Mark Cavendish 400/1
Tyson Fury 500/1”

Since this was last done the odds have changed slightly. Murray is now at 13/8, with Brownlee going down to 5/2. With Anthony Joshua definitely not fighting Wladimir Klitschko has meant his odds have gone out to 16/1. Mo Farah's odds have gone out slightly to 6/1 and Lewis Hamilton has moved to 80/1 with there still being a possibility of him winning this years F1 title. Andrew Johnston (known to some as Beef) has joined Sky Bet's list at 500/1. For everyone else their odds remain unchanged.

The Rio drug testers could have got any brits they missed, at the parades pretty much.

16/1 is the shortest price on Anthony Joshua he's mainly 33/1 or 40/1 on most books or 66/1 at bet fair - the only players who haven't realy moved much are the top 3 and the Murray and farah are more likely the CERTS for the short list
