Batdude spreading his magic in here as well I see.
If by magic, you mean, putting forth my opinion on how good a year Andy Murray has had, that yes, you are correct.

Was hoping for somebody else in a highly competitive and successful Olympics year, but there isn't any disputing his inevitable victory, especially with #1 sealed.
Agree with you and everyone else that reckons Murray is now a shoe-in. Quoted you specifically cos I love your username

Murray, Mo, and Kadeena Cox, would be my top three (in that order) I think.

You may want to stick £1 on Cox then. She was last matched at 999/1 to finish in the top 3.

Although I think about 99% of the country would be thinking Kadeen who?

I'm a massive Andy Murray fan, but I really think it should be Max Whitlock for his unprecedented gold double at the Olympics.

That's a massive achievement.

A British tennis player ranked #1 is also "unprecedented". Just saying, like.

Not in the Murray family

I meant in proper rankings, and not the "not good enough and/or too old to be a singles player" rankings.

That's as maybe, I still stand by my choice of Max Whitlock

It's nice that there is a wide choice in an Olympic year.

Murray's 3 grand slam wins put him at just 39th on the all time men's list. And he's spent the fewest weeks ranked no.1 of anyone to get there.

Very good tennis player, and Britain's best ever, but let's not get carried away. He's not in the all time top 10 in his sport, and plenty of other candidates are this year.

Having said that he's probably going to win anyway.

But its Sports Personality of the Year....not all time. At the moment he is world number 1 and the first Briton ever to be ranked there in the singles.

What about Froome as he is the best in the world at Cycling

Well that is also debatable really as Peter Sagan has won the World title twice in a row for example..

Cyclists can have very different abilities.

Some are out and out sprinters like Cavendish whilst others enjoy the one day classics - then there are the likes of Froome who are Grand Tour contenders.

Winning medals in cycling (beating a Dame no less!) and on the running track, is a huge and massive achievement, unlike we have seen for a very long time.

I think that for me deserves to recognised.

Well we have witnessed a leave vote on Europe and the poles and the bookies said it wouldn't happen
Secondly against the grain TRUMP is now president AGAIN bookies and poles !!!!

NOW - possibly mo farah could be made WORLD ATHLETE of the year on December 10 ?
Keep in mind bookies and personal opinion could have this wrong as well ? I'm sticking with mo farah ,as for Andy Murray wouldn't it be best to see how 2017 pans out as the new no 1 ? I'm guessing with Novak out of form and obviously no new guard on the horizon Murray could have a better 2017 maybe possibly 2/3 slam wins ? The scenario will be a few idiots saying Murray has to win spoty 2017 and my argument will be , when will it STOP ? If he gets spoty 2016 and wins 3 slams in 2017 and is still no 1 , then what ? He gets it again ? HELLO MURRAY LOVERS !!! THERE IS OTHER BRITISH SPORTS STARS ? ARE THE MURRY LOVERS TO BLINKERED TO SEE THAT THERE IS A CHOICE ??? HOW FICKLE YOU LOT ARE

Murray will almost certainly win. It will be his third win.

Is he worth three wins? While other great athletes go unnoticed?

Is an award voted for by the public actually worth anything? What major ward is voted for by supporters of Brexit and Trump?

I have said before that Froome will exit cycling as maybe Britain's* most sucessful sportsman, without a top three finish in SPOTY.

*Kenyan. Yeah, yeah, I know.

It wouldnt be anything to do with being Kenyan really. It doesnt affect Mo Farah being from Somalia does it. Froome wont win as to the majority of the public he is incredibly boring and doesnt have much of a profile.

Murray deserves the title. My personal top 3 would be Murray, Skelton and Farah.

Exactly my point - is he worth 3 wins when other great British sporting stars goes unnoticed ?
Then what if 2017 is a even better year for Murray ? Will the Murray lovers come out in force - what if froome wins a 4th Tour de France , would that not be a greater achievement than anything Murray produces in his life ?
2016 award should go to a anyone who practised hard for 4 years for a gold medal and solely practised for the olympics ,not a guy who if win or loose was able to jet off to other events - if it's a case of win some loose some then Lewis Hamilton should be with a shout - 2016 should be all about a British Olympic athlete - no exceptions

Murray is an Olympic athlete, and a gild medal winning one at that.

Also why just limit it to Olympic athletes, why not also include Paralympic athletes as well??

Ok - any athlete who trained 4 years solely for a gold medal win at either olympics or Paralympics , it should be awarded to a devoted Olympian / paralympian male or female , I just feel it should be awarded to a male/female - Olympic / Paralympic who devoted 4 years of the lives training for that SOLE MOMENT IN HISTORY
