Ok - any athlete who trained 4 years solely for a gold medal win at either olympics or Paralympics , it should be awarded to a devoted Olympian / paralympian male or female , I just feel it should be awarded to a male/female - Olympic / Paralympic who devoted 4 years of the lives training for that SOLE MOMENT IN HISTORY
No athlete trains solely for the Olympics, every sport has important events and championships occurring annually, it's just the media only become interested in some of them (e.g. taekwondo) during the Olympics.

So, you would exclude all of the athletes who competed in the World Championships, and entered other races, such as the Great North Run?

It's definitely looking like a one horse race now, if winning Wimbledon and the Olympics wasn't enough getting to number 1 must have sealed the deal. My personal top 3 would be Murray, Farah and Whitlock. I think Brownlee is more likely to replace Whitlock up there though.

The Great North Run also has elite races. Mo Farah has won a number of times which I assume you knew as you are such a big fan of his.

I'm not the one creating a great big list of artificial reasons to exclude as many sports and rivals as possible. You are the one who suggested the rule that would exclude participants of, amongst other things, The Great North Run, which I watched by the way.

It is my interest in these other sporting events that means I can spot the flaws in your arbitrary rules.

Jess Ennis-Hill should definitely win a special award of some kind.

Why? She isnt one of the most decorated Olympians that we have had and others have had much better years than her as well. I highly doubt that she will receive any award.

You can't give awards simply for retiring, otherwise Heather Stanning and Bradley Wiggins would also be owed one.

What for exactly??

She finished runner up, in silver medal position at the recent Olympic Games, so quite how does that equate to winning an award at this particular ceremony??

She is a fantastic athlete; gold and silver at successive games for heptathlon is way more difficult than at most sports; she is adorable; and she wore tight knickers like nobody else on earth. 😀

So your saying she deserves an award for her looks. That isnt what SPOTY is about and it really is wrong to say that, the awards should be for sporting achievements. And due to such a successful games from Team GB silver medallists are being overlooked. There is no point giving her an award this year when other athletes are far more deserving of accolades this year. (She would probably agree with this as well)

I am taking a slightly more light-hearted approach than some others, yes 😀.

Should Andy Murray win the World Tour Finals tonight then the odds on him winning SPOTY will shorten even more.

It's not about 2016 SPOTY any more, that's obviously Andy and has been for a while. The only real conversation left is whether he is Britain's greatest EVER sportsperson. I can't see anyone who can match his resume to be honest.
