Well you are, because its an utterly absurd suggestion. Its akin to saying Peyton Manning should win the award this year, and yes people would equally laugh at you for that as well.

Hang on a minute, all I did was put forth a sports person who has had a supremely successful career at the very highest levels of his sport, including multiple Olympic Gold medals, and that is somehow deserving of being called a wind up merchant??
I am not even a fan of his now former club side, yet I can admire how successful of a career he has had.

Just so I know for next time, which sports are and are not acceptable to suggest someone be nominated for an award??

None of the American ones with a tiny UK fan base. Hope this helps.

Which sports are considered American? American football presumably, Ice Hockey (although I consider that more Canadian), Baseball, and Basketball, anything else?
Sports with a large number of American sports people in them?

Also how is a fan base decided, as whenever for example the NFL come over here they sell out Wembley and any other stadium that they play in.

All I am asking for is just a bit of clarity that is all.

If Kobe Bryant (EDIT: Kobe, not Lebron) was a serious contender for the award, the BBC would have absolutely no problem getting the footage together. They don't need to be the original broadcaster to air footage, they often use Sky Sports footage on the news etc

For him to be a proper contender he'd need to transcend just basketball though, that isn't enough to break into the UK properly (NFL is arguably the most popular US Sport over here and that's still very much a niche as far as the mainstream goes). Space Jam 2 better get cracking

Not much cricket in the Sky Sports archive of him plus a lot of cricket is played at silly times of day viewing wise for us so he's probably a no.

Oh come on now, you know full well what sports I am talking about.

Any American/Canadian who plays in America/Canada in the following sports:

NFL
Baseball
Basketball
Ice Hockey

..has got the same chance of winning Lifetime Achievement Award as I have getting a blow job from the Pope.

NFL sell out Wembley a few times a year, you really think that means an NFL player is going to have a chance of winning as well?

Stop being obtuse.

I had that scene in my head as I typed the word out

The Warden then sends an email to the BBC demanding that Mikkelin Kampparit, the current Finland bandy champions, be awarded Team Of the Year....

None of the US sports are represented at a high level by British teams, which tends to spark the interest a lot more. If you look at those represented for the overseas award, they're all sports we've had some homeboy success in:

Tennis
Athletics
Golf
Boxing
Football
Cricket
Figure skating
Gymnastics
Kabaddi
Formula One
Rugby union
Cycling
Horse racing
Rugby league

Since when is asking for clarification, being obtuse?

When clarification clearly isn't necessary. So, every time.

The annual feature on Kabaddi on the SPOTY show is my favourite part.

Steady on, Lennox Lewis exists.

I wonder who will get the other awards, away from the main, and team of the year awards,as they seem pretty obvious now.

Do you actually realise this is a British award on British TV? Basketball is of extremely low importance over here and as such a player that 90% of people will have never had heard of is not going to win an award on the BBC.

It has nothing at all to do with the amount of poxy recorded action they can get of him and more to do with the fact he means absolutely sod all to anyone over here.

With each new post of yours im convinced you are nothing more than a troll. With 60,000 posts i can only give you credit for being a bloody good one, but a troll none the less.

I am as far away from a troll as it is possible to get.

Just because I have or happen to have a different opinion to you, that does not make me a troll, it is a very insulting term to use, and should not be used so flippantly.
