Yep me too but i wouldnt begrudge Andy Murray winning it again if he did. Or Max Whitlock. Or Chris Froome. Or Laura Trott etc.

There are a couple of interesting sub plots which might impact on who win awards

The fact that the event is taking place at the NEC Birmingham means Leicester are winning at least one award (team of the year) and might be two coach of the year. The BBC will want to ensure the Midlands are rewarded on the night.

Secondly will Mo Farah and indeed Andy Murray turn up. Mo did not last year as he was training in the USA and did not even do an interview on the night. Murray made a rare appearance last year but would not normally attend as he also training in the USA.

Unlike Andy being Andy Murray ?
A lot of people see tennis as Serbian/Swiss / Spanish SO your point is ???
well the original post just said MO in capitals.

I doubt if the top participants in any other sport are as widespread geographically as tennis. Men's Tennis especially is very hard to win.

take this

http://www.statista.com/statistics/2...ers-worldwide/

The top 30 on this list include 18 countries.(I stopped at 30) The top country represented is France with 5. The top 10 includes 9 different countries.

I take it you are saying sebia/swiss/spain just because of Djokovic/Federer/Nadal.

Alternatively, the top 10000 metres times is in general an African list.
http://www.alltime-athletics.com/m_10kok.htm

only 2 countries in the top 10, and maybe 8 in the top 30.

I doubt very much if Farah will win SPOTY. Maybe 3rd.

I think you may well be right.

No doubt in my mind that Andy Murray will win it, his season has been fantastic and I think he has won every tournament the BBC have coverage of. (Queens, Wimbledon, Olympics and possibly DC as well) Add in the fact that he is massively popular these days makes me think he will win again.

And yet he beat all of them

You seem reluctant to congratulate him on what he has achieved, only look for flaws why he may not win. I don't think he will win, sadly, but what he has done is incredible and he is a wonderful example to all.

I am not looking for flaws. I just don't think distance running still captures the imagination as much as it used to. That's why I don't expect him to get enough votes to win.

Why do you not think he will when, then?

What about young sports personality?
My vote would go to Amy Tinkler

Overseas personality
Would vote for Michael Phelps

And who gets lifetime achievement

Really don't know enough about the contenders for young personality but isn't Amy Tinkler too old ? She will be 17 by the awards.

Yep, I think Phelps deserves it. I know Bolt has the glitz and razzamatazz of being 100m champion but what Phelps has done is incredible. Plus Bolt has won it 3 times before. Surprisingly no swimmer has ever won the Overseas Award ( not even Mark Spitz )

Lifetime is a tricky one. Your shout of Steve Davis is a good one. He has the most top 3 appearances in the SPOTY contest. But others who could be contenders - Joe Calzaghe, Nick Faldo, Matt Pinsent.

Davis deserves the lifetime achievement, Wiggins could challenge but what Davis achieved in his career is outstanding

Not to mention being entertaining on I'm a celeb

Well here is hoping Davis does get Lifetime achievement, it is only right that his achievements are marked by giving him the award

Yep, and you can add Alistair Brownlee to the growing list as well. I think any non-Olympian is going to have to pull off a huge shock to be in with a chance.

Interestingly, Mo is at 5/1 with the 5000m final still to go. Worth a an e/w bet.....

Can anyone explain why Trott is more revered that Kenny, even though she's won less?

If Mo Farah doesn't win in this year, he can definitely win it next year, with his likely retirement at the Worlds in London.

If he does not win it this year HE never will - how many super Saturday's can you give to the nation without recognition? Next year will probably be Ben ainsley IF , and I reckon he will WIN the Americas cup !!! There's a long term bet

Next year there wont be as much competition.

If Mo Farah wins double gold at the worlds in front of the home crowd in London next year, I can't see him being topped.

Mercedes's dominance will come to end shortly, so unless either Murray or McIlroy win 2 or 3 majors, Mo Farah will be favourite under those circumstances if he wins 2 golds at London 2017.

People are forgetting that Murray STILL has the US Open and the Davis Cup this year. Wins either of those (or even both) and this is over.

I should imagine there'd be quite a few up for it this year, especially after the Olympics.

If Great Britain win the Americas cup ?? There is no bigger sporting event !! The last time we won that queen Victoria was watching , no sporting event can top this achievement in 2017 so you have to seriously think about that if that happens
