He had a case on achievement - there wasn't much of one at all for Skelton or Brownlee - umpten people had achieved more, or matched Brownlee in more competitive sports.

Nick Skelton deserves a Knighthood to follow on. Oldest British Olympic Gold medal winner. And the Queen does love her equestrian sports.

Ok. So what if he actually went and won the thing?”

He obviously knew he had no chance of winning.

Well to be fair neither did Ryan Giggs the year he won. It was still possible surely.

Open a lot of throwaway email addresses and sign up for 400,000 accounts on the BBC website and get voting.

That's his best chance.

Andy Murray has made two pieces of history tonight.

He's the first person to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in successive years, and he's the first person to win it three times overall.

he wasn't even nominated so that would be quite difficult!

Yep, absolutely, in a year with some horrible happenings it's nice to see thee such nice people being recognised.

He might pull it off if he wins in London next year.

2009 (I think it was) must've been a bad year for British sport! lol

Giggs won it on sentiment at the time, can't have been any other reason. I mean, I'm a United fan and it's still a mystery to me that he DID win it!

...since 1908 (yup, that year again). Joshua Millner won the 1000 yard rifle title at 61 years of age.
