Hmm sceptical. So that would mean he was able to do a video link up if he won but couldn't be arsed to do one to say thanks for the support etc earlier in the evening. But who knows.
Just rewind it back on BBC1. They didn't mention a video link, someone was in the room on his behalf.

Nobody seems to be able to answer the question that I and another poster have asked: What exactly does Mo Farrah have to do to win, or even get in the top 3 for SPOTY? He has won double gold over the last four global championships, including two Olympics. No other British athlete has come close to achieving this and yet athletes have won it before. Cram, Radcliffe, Ennis and probably others who escape me at the moment, did not achieve what he has. How can there be three other people more worthy than him every single year?
He has just been incredibly unlucky in that his successes have happened during a period of sporting excellence in this county, the likes of which might not be seen for a while (hopefully I am wrong, and we continue to be hugely successful).

Now there's a thought! Yes, he was shagging his sister-in-law at the time, wasn't he? Did so for 7 years.

Some people say it's the only thing interesting about him! lol
I just find it funny when they talk about a great role model Giggs gets talked about without that even coming up!

Rooney has a one night stand and his reputation goes down the pan...

I think somebody said he needs to win the Marathon and two more gold medals at next years World Championship to have a chance

He's been unfortunate in the respect that he has been in an outstanding era for British sportsmen, plenty of deserving people have missed out over the last 10 years. Gone are the days when you wondered who would be on the list, you now wonder who won't make it. I find it incredible that Chris Froome failed to make the shortlist.
I fully agree with you here, so many excellent sporting people have not even got close to being nominated, so not winning it is no shame on him, similar questions could be asked for example in regards to Hannah Cockcroft, what more does she have to do to win it?

Oh sorry I thought you meant in the room with him like Lennox.

Be born in Britain. There's a lot of dislike for him and Froome for some reason for not being 'true' Brits.
Linford Christie won in 1992 despite being born in Jamaica.

He will never win as according to many he is not truly British. A lot of people post this online. The same with Froome.

I still don't think he'd win even then. There'd be someone who'd pop up with another achievement like Nick Skelton (!) and pip him to it again.

From comments I read online, a lot of people say Mo is not British for some reason.

Obviously I don't know the answer to that, no one does, but perhaps he's just not very popular as a person?

Anyone who admires what he's achieved, maybe they just don't like him much as a person? I seem to vaguely remember there was some negative publicity about him after the London Olympics when he got something like £250,000 for running half a marathon or something? I think it was a whole marathon but he only ran half of it ..? And there were things about him doing anything for money ... ? I remember he ran some race earlier this year and on the radio they were on about that, about some of the things he's done for the money not going down well ... something like that, I was only half listening!

Might have nothing to do with that, of course.

Bit of a shock not seeing Mo in the top three, but as I predicted, it was a Rio clean sweep.
I doubt Andy would have won had he retained his Olympic gold but not won Wimbledon or become world number 1. Alistair's was also for the attention he got in the world series; the Olympics alone would not have put him in the public consciousness to that extent.

It is a non Olympic and Paralympic year next year, so if he has another great year, then I don't see why he couldn't be in the running (pardon the pun) once again.

Oh but Michael Phelps can win Life achievement even though he has two drink driving offences

He was born in Somalia, apparently. Moved here when he was 8.

Jamie Vardy looks like he wants to nut Lineker.
I thought he looked a bit like a ferret

It seems like Vardy is here more for what he did last year than this, if anyones inclusion on the shortlist is a bit of a head scratcher for me this year its his.
First 5 months of 2016

What's Mo training for now? Does he ever stop training.
The Tofu games

Jessica Ennis sitting next to Prince William

Lucky girl
How so ?

He always mentions other players success more than his own. He's very humble.
But not as humble as me

Prince William is a nice chap but a poor public speaker compared to his father and brother.
Yes. He was not good

He co-presented. Prince William knew all the words. Not necessarily in the right order.

Roy Keane looks up for a fight.

Congrats to Leicester hopefully they won't get relegated this year.
Not in 2016

1. He needs to turn up
2. He needs to win Wimbledon
3. Jessica Ennis has never won, but she should have done.

I known. That seems to turn people against him for some weird reason.

Can't see Mo ever winning while Andy is still being successful on the court. Tennis is a massively high profile sport which puts him in the limelight and it's fairly obvious he is very popular nowadays.

Maybe if Mo win's something against the odds when he's nearing retirement etc then he may have a good chance.

I would hope that one day someone would, as their achievements are certainly not any less impressive than those from the Olympics.

I doubt Andy would have won had he retained his Olympic gold but not won Wimbledon or become world number 1. Alistair's was also for the attention he got in the world series; the Olympics alone would not have put him in the public consciousness to that extent.
This particular debate has gone around in circles for a good few weeks now, I think if he had retained his gold and finished as number one, but not won Wimbledon, then he would still have won the award.

Ali got nominated primarily for his success in the Olympics, his huge success away from the Olympics just added to how great of year he had.
