You can't use this sort of logic on here
Yeah got to be careful thinking along those sort of lines!

Will we ever see a snooker player nominated ever again as i think the last one to be nominated was Ronnie. But im not sure
I have a feeling Ronnie will get another nomination or an award, maybe lifetime after he retires.

Sorry, I meant the cycling course and whether it suits a climber or sprinter.
That's in 2019. The various parcours probably won't be decided until well into 2018.

(On second thoughts, I've just realised you weren't necessarily referring to a Worlds on home soil. Mixed that up with the IAAF Worlds in 2017, which are...)
But Froome isn't really a one day rider, so his days of winning SPOTY are probably gone.
True. The time trial might be a different story, though.

I think Steve Davis may be a future lifetime achievement winner too

Yes in a highly competitive year, but Hoy, Wiggins and Cavendish have all won the trophy in the last 7 or 8 years or so.

EDIT: And Brownlee isn't a bad cyclist
It's possible Cav might win it again........ he needs 5 more stage wins to overtake Eddie Merckx as the rider with the most Tour de France stage wins in history. That might win it for him

He won 4 stages last year so he could win 5 over the next couple of years

That would be a non Olympic year so he'd have a better chance

Good show tonight considering they had so much to squeeze in. The tributes to those no longer with us always makes my eyes damp and some lovely footage from the year. I had never seen that Nick Skelton getting his gold moment before. Made me well up again. I am just a bloody big daft softie I think.

It is always shocking quite how many people pass away each year, it always gets me, as so many talented people are no longer with us.

We need to treasure the ones that are still alive.

Froome will probably have to win two Grand Tours. Not sure what sort of course the 2017 World Championships is though?
It's in Bergen, Norway

There was a stage race there this season which was shown on Eurosport ........it was quite a difficult course and likely to be bad weather at that time of year

But even so I can't see Froome winning it ...............it'll be a tough 'classics' rider's course

Why did some people think that Steve Davis this year was going to be the one who would get Lifetime achievement

Mine was Pavel Srnicek. I present a sports show for my community radio station, and it was honestly one of the hardest reports I've done so far. The man is a Newcastle legend.

I'd like to apologise if I got a little aggressive earlier with my comments about why people don't vote for Mo. I get very emotive over mistreatment of people due to their colour, race, religion, sexuality and so on. Always upsets me and I let it get to me more than I should. Of course the reason Mo don't win wasn't down to bigotry but I do think it exists in sport. Even on this thread we have it. Somebody earlier on today claimed Nicola Adams was only nominated because she is "a black lesbian and ticks a box". That is insulting on so many levels and it needs stamping out.

Apologies again

Well done on saying that, as it is wrong as you say, but I honestly don't think it played a significant role in the outcome of this vote.

strange isn't it how white, public school, middle class athletes are never 'ticking boxes'

You may be right, I think if Jason Kenny goes onto Tokyo I suspect he will become the most decorated British Olympian and will win 2020 but that of course would depend on other factors too, like a Brit not winning all or nearly all of the Golf majors or Tennis majors etc.

You can't tell people who to vote for. There has been a hell of a lot of competition in the past decade or so. Having said that, I think Mo Farah has achieved only one top three finish in all his years of achievement. That seems wrong.

Wow, it's rare on here for someone to come back and post like this. Respect to you for thinking to do it.

Sport reflects the real world so of course bigotry exists, but I really don't think that is why Mo didn't make the top 3. There were no women either but I don't think it was misogyny. It just so happened that the white men who won had touching stories - and Andy was on prime time BBC1 winning Wimbledon. They didn't win because they were white men; they won because they did something amazing that reached the public imagination and they should be allowed to celebrate and enjoy it.

Yet the combined cyclists vote would have only come 5th
Only track riders though. Cycling fans view track in the same way rugby fans view sevens. (I know Hoy won but there was a big campaign behind him - a cycling win was a novelty then)

Early thoughts for 2017. Non Olympic, football/rugby tournament or ashes year so a lot of the usual big sports might not be in contention.

Obvious early contender is Anthony Joshua, his fate on the list will be known by the end of April. Win there and then maybe a fight with Haye to close the year out win both and he'll be red hot. Few boxers lining up big fights in 2017 Khan v Brook possibly, Frampton and De Gale have top level fights coming up as well.

Murray again of course. If he carries on his end of year form into 2017 it may even be his best year yet. 1 or 2 grand slams probably required for a 4th SPOTY.

F1 now Rosbergs out the way Hamilton will be white hot fave for the 2017 world title.

The world athletics championships being in London should mean there will be some GB athletes on the list. Maybe it will finally be Mo's year!

Cycling usual suspects Froome and Cav depending on how the Tour De France goes.

Golf depends on the majors, could be anyone!
