It's going back a long way but in 1991 the team of the year prize was shared by the British 4x400m relay team that had become world champions and the England rugby team. I wouldn't totally rule out a repeat of that this time with the award won both by Leicester and the Team GB hockey team (both are great stories), although I will be interested to see if Leicester still win it if they are having a poor season come December.

The season that Leicester won the league was a huge achievement, and if anything their poor results could help to emphasise just how big an achievement it actually was!

Very much agree with your logic. but not entirely sure logic and reason always comes out on top at SPOTY awards, even the awards chosen by judges and not the public. I've not checked previous years team winners other than 2012 when Team award was given to Team GB, which seems a cop out as so many sports come under the Olympic/TeamGB umbrella (golf and rugby sevens added this time) that it almost becomes almost an award for over half the sportsmen &women in the audience

No I think it was a combination of both. Obviously his TDF was more iconic than Froome's but the public never vote for just his TDF wins.

I mean the public didn't vote for Froome's tour de france achievements because he hasn't come top 3 in the public so far when he's been on the shortlist, not they wouldn't in general! I think Wiggins tour de france played a massive part in his victory ofc, but the gold medal as well also benefited.

Are you for real? Only Lassie Viren has done the double 5000/10000 before & I'm old enough to remember how poor he was between olympics and the rumours of blood-doping. An achievement that has been beyond the likes of Zatopek, Bekele & Gebrselassie is not to be sniffed at to put it mildly.

How ridiculous to refuse to vote for someone because they don't sing the "national" anthem (which is actually nothing of the sort). In fact apart from the hockey team I can't think of a single gold medallist who did sing it.
