I do not condone or support such attitudes, merely pointing out why Mo is unlikely to win.

He is the massive favourite and this is already factored into the SPOTY betting. If it wasn't then no one would back him to win the 5000m, they would just back him to win SPOTY at 5/1 and lay him at the evens you are suggesting.

You don't go from 5/1 to evens by winning an event you are the 1/5 favourite for. He may come in a little, 7/2 or to a best priced 4/1.”

I would never vote for anyone who did not live in the UK

Living and training abroad is pretty such a necessity in Mo's case, he would probably never have become the best in the world otherwise.

He still doesn't get my vote. He doesn't sing the national anthem.

Farah's achievement of the double double is not unique.

It's going back a long way but in 1991 the team of the year prize was shared by the British 4x400m relay team that had become world champions and the England rugby team. I wouldn't totally rule out a repeat of that this time with the award won both by Leicester and the Team GB hockey team (both are great stories), although I will be interested to see if Leicester still win it if they are having a poor season come December.

I can't believe Murray is such a short priced favourite to win the award again. It has to be Jason Kenny who deserves it surely?

Have to agree with that but the clue should be in the word "personality". By the end of the year my vote will probably go to another double double winner - Mrs Kenny!

The season that Leicester won the league was a huge achievement, and if anything their poor results could help to emphasise just how big an achievement it actually was!

You really couldn't imagine them doing that again, whereas to some degree the GB hockey women did have some form, as the majority (if not all, I am not entirely sure of the difference in squads) were part of the England team that win the recent Championships, which is far more then Leicester had.

Very much agree with your logic. but not entirely sure logic and reason always comes out on top at SPOTY awards, even the awards chosen by judges and not the public. I've not checked previous years team winners other than 2012 when Team award was given to Team GB, which seems a cop out as so many sports come under the Olympic/TeamGB umbrella (golf and rugby sevens added this time) that it almost becomes almost an award for over half the sportsmen &women in the audience

I know it comes down to the public vote BUT look how it looks without 2016 ?
2008 cycling winner
2011 cycling winner
2012 cycling winner
2013 a tennis winner
2015 a tennis winner
So for Christ sake let there be a bloody different sport winner

What the HELL does singing the National Anthem have to do with SPOTY ? I don't give a monkeys who sings or doesn't sing it, if they win a gold medal or a world title for GB then they are ok by me whether they are white, black, brown, green or orange with purple spots. Whether Muslim, Christian, Catholic or Atheist

Far too many bigots in the UK and a damn fair amount of them on DS....and I don't think dodrade is one of them

Is it fair to say that in 2012, Olympics year, Bradley Wiggins won the SPOTY primarily for winning the Tour de France rather than an Olympic medal ?

No I think it was a combination of both. Obviously his TDF was more iconic than Froome's but the public never vote for just his TDF wins.

How do you know ? It had never happened before. I think it was the trigger for the golden summer of success we had.

I mean the public didn't vote for Froome's tour de france achievements because he hasn't come top 3 in the public so far when he's been on the shortlist, not they wouldn't in general! I think Wiggins tour de france played a massive part in his victory ofc, but the gold medal as well also benefited.

Wiggins is also seen as a bigger personality (lounging on the throne, the mod thing) whereas Froome is much more reserved and a bit dull.

Are you for real? Only Lassie Viren has done the double 5000/10000 before & I'm old enough to remember how poor he was between olympics and the rumours of blood-doping. An achievement that has been beyond the likes of Zatopek, Bekele & Gebrselassie is not to be sniffed at to put it mildly.

How ridiculous to refuse to vote for someone because they don't sing the "national" anthem (which is actually nothing of the sort). In fact apart from the hockey team I can't think of a single gold medallist who did sing it.
