Poor trailer IMO, and for a film i'm actually quite looking forward to.

Looks a bit Inceptiony in parts and the colour palette is a little duller than I would have liked but it's only a teaser. I remember being underwhelmed by the Ant-Man teaser and that movie was great fun.

I think we should bear in mind that its only a teaser trailer, and it seems to primarily focus on the genesis of the character, his training etc. I would guess that's deliberate. May not be to everyone's taste, but I think its to early to make a judgement just based on this.
However, my issues with it are that it uses that tired old cliché of trying to impress us with CGI spectacle...I mean, folding cityscapes is already old, even TV adverts are doing that now. I will be charitable and state that maybe this is all the footage that was available...the film is still in production. Very much a wait and see affair... |

I feel this might flop. Especially if the promo heads in the same direction. The general public who don't know the characters might not get it, i mean i've already seen comments like:
Matrix ripoff, Inception ripoff, Why is Tilda Swinton doing a David Carradine impression? |

Love Doctor Strange. Easily one of my favourite Marvel characters of all time.
Please don't let me down... |

It's hard to tell from this trailer but I'd like to think that the film itself will feature more bizarre imagery with vibrant colours.
I'm hoping that they reference the style of Steve Ditko a lot more and don't rely on safe and predictable styles of CGI which have been tried and tested many times before. With the power of CGI nowadays they can do absolutely anything, but even with such great power they often don't, and tend to just drift into mainstream familiarty. I hope that this film is brave and experiments with style a lot more as the subject matter practically dictates it. I am excited about it though, but I feel that this film more so than any other Marvel film has the potential to disappoint a lot more. They need to put some psychedelic glasses on to get it right, but I don't think this trailer quite captures it. I think they've bottled it a bit out of fear that the mainstream audience won't like weirdness. |

Very intriguing. I know very little about Dr Strange and hence really welcome the chance for Marvel to introduce me to a brand new character.
Kudos to them for pushing out both the big boys - Avengers, Capt A and also the smaller ones like this and Ant Man. |

I really enjoyed the teaser trailer for Doctor Strange but all the did show was the basic origin of the character that will properly only take up the first 30 minutes of the film
I think there will be a lot more to come in future trailers and I hope it lives up to the comics! |

I guess this is going to have to have the full origin story because it's one of the lesser known characters.

I did read the comics as a kid but cannot remember them that well. I also felt that reminded me of Batman Begins, especially the early training sequences. |

I would agree, and that makes sense because outside of the comic world the character will not be that well known.

Hard to tell what this movie could be about... but it doesn't feel particularly like Doctor Strange to me.
Still - way too early to judge

The whole trailer is very Nolan-esque.
I hope that this isn't indicative of the film itself, because Doctor Strange more than any of the Marvel heroes in the films so far should be as different as possible, not similar to things which have gone before. I was hoping for something that looked dramatically different to what has gone before. I just hope that this is a minor teaser and that a future main trailer is going to express a more visually exciting style. This film is one Marvel film which must not look like a conventional superhero film. |

Good cape action at the end. The potential for unintentional camp is HUGE with this film.

Yes I think you're right. And as another poster said it feels a bit like Batman Begins.

I honestly hadn't even heard of Inferno until you just posted about it then but thats out mid October with Doctor Strange on the 29th October then Fantastic Beasts etc is not until the 18th November so basically there is a two week gap between all 3 films being released
That could be a factor but I don't know if I consider Inferno a big hitter as you called it although as a previous poster said the Marvel name will help sell Doctor Strange especially as they will hype Doctor Strange a lot It will be different to usual Marvel films though which may put some people off it so it will be interesting to see how it performs at the box office when it's released! |

Wasn't blown away by the trailer. And to be honest, i'm not even looking forward to this film with Cumberbatch & Marvel involved. But with Strange being one of favourite Marvel characters, there was probably enough in the trailer to get me to see the film in the cinema.

Flop? The Marvel brand will doubtless do some of its magic, but maybe it'll be more Ant-Man than Iron-Man levels of success.

Trailer 2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSzx-zryEgM Cucumber looks spot-on as Strange but it's going to take some stick for the similarities to Inception. |

Hmm. I'm sure Cumberbatch will do his best with it, but as a trailer it's not quite selling me the character. Seems lost in all the derivative FX.
