Side note: (and because I don't know that much about the greater Marvel universe) Is Dormammu any relation or link to Thanos. They both has similar features. Thanks

As far as I know Dormammu is no relation to Thanos and Dormammu is in the dark dimensions at the moment which is what Kaecuilis was trying to bring to bring to earth at the end of the film
Apparently Dormammu face was provided by Benedict Cumberbatch with his voice done by another actor! |

They certainly aren't related in the comics (that I'm aware of), though I agree that there was a resemblance in the movie... if anything Dormammu would be far more powerful than Thanos, notwithstanding *SPOILER* how Strange defeats him in the film, though that would obviously change if Thanos obtains the time stone as part of the Infinity Gauntlet...

I wouldnt be so dismissive of old school PR methods. They must still work given the high cost.

I would say that everything you have mentioned in social media, websites etc is aimed at comic book fans and bus banners etc are aimed at the general public. Both of which build to the overall box office of the film!

I'm just saying that it's strange for a big film studio to not cover all aspects when advertising a big blockbuster release for them!
I didn't see one trailer for Doctor Strange on TV and I still haven't which is very bizarre as even the low budget horror films have trailers on tv Actually I can't think of a small or big budget film that hasn't done all aspects of advertising before it's release! |

I saw it last night. I was a bit bored tbh, but that's more on me. I knew next to nothing about the material and I didn't care that much for the previews. I probably expected to be bored.

Saw it last night, was slightly disappointed, but only because my expectations were so high... actually hard to say what was wrong with it, it just didn't have that "punching the air" thing I got from Civil War or GotG... possibly too much sub-Yoda pseudo-philosophy, though Tilda Swinton is nicely-otherworldly, and of course BC is excellent, as is Wong, though Mads Mikkelson and Rachel McAdams are both underused...
The visuals are incredible - whatever you think you've seen in the trailers is just scratching the surface, it's just bonkers, and amazingly inventive, but will be hugely diminished on TV, so see it at the cinema, and in 3D if you can (I'd guess the IMAX version will be eye-popping, too...) Not sure if this will be a hit though, it's very "out there" and without the crossover potential of (say) Ant-Man, which had a lot more comedy and a reasonably straightforward get-the-gang-together-and-do-a-heist hook... though there's no doubt the Dr. Strange character will appear again in the MCU, I hope this movie does well enough to warrant a standalone sequel, with less exposition and more Strange/Wong banter, it would probably be even better... |

I saw it last night and really liked it. It's does sometimes feel like a bit of step backwards in the MCU given that it's a traditional origin story and feels a bit rushed at times with Strange holding his own with seasoned sorcerers after no more than a few months training. A little tweak in the script could have shown that he was training for years before things go south. The 3rd act is very Doctor Who.

Thanks Braveshgor as this thread is very quiet which is weird for any Marvel film and I think that's partly due to the advertising but maybe it's being well advertised in America but not the UK!
Asaraulim the fact that Doctor Strange is a niche character in your words didn't matter to Marvel when Guardians Of The Galaxy was released in the cinema in terms of advertising and they are even more niche than Doctor Strange! In fact Doctor Strange is a bigger character in the Marvel comics than a lot of characters that have come before in the MCU and has been an important member of the Avengers as well as the Illumanti if Marvel decides to introduce that group into the MCU |

Maybe and we will see when the first weekend box office comes in which will properly be big as they are counting the money made since it was released on Tuesday
I just found it unusual that they seem to have given up on this film before it's even released in the U.K. However the screening I went to on Tuesday was pretty busy so it will be interesting to see how it does! |

Saw it today, thought it was fantastic. Had no expectations at all since I don't know much about the character. Loved all the magic and the philosophical viewpoints, the characters were good, the acting on point, and my God the magical action scenes were a massive thrill to watch.

Im glad you enjoyed AdzPower as its a great film and as it says after the credits that Doctor Strange will return as im guessing that in the future he will be an important part of MCU!
Especially if RDJ doesn't return after Avengers:Infinity War when Doctor Strange is next expected to be seen in the MCU |

I saw it today and it was ......... ok. Enjoyable and funny in places and I was in to it as i have actually read some of the comics when I was a nipper, but I wasn't in to it really, if that makes sense.
Visually stunning in places, and Cumberbatch absolutely embodies the Doctor Strange I remember, but ............... The first end credits scene was very funny

I actually very much enjoyed it.
Pros: - Benedict Cumberbatch was fantastic as Doctor Strange, and I say that as someone who is by no means a fan of Cumberbatch. - The (very minor) romance sub-plot felt like how Thor and Jane Foster SHOULD have been handled. - Unlike some past Marvel movies, the movie knows not to interject jokes into some farily emotional scenes. - Amazing CGI sequences, absolutely breath-taking stuff. - Some very likeable supporting characters and great humour used through-out. - Arguably Marvel's most interesting movie to date. - BOTH post-credits scenes are genuinely great. Cons: - The *big bad*, while used very nicely in the end, made me reminsce a little too much of Galactus in Fantastic Four 2. - Mads Milkensen's character didn't get much development and it's never really explained what his motives are. - It can get quite confusing trying to keep up with the break-neck speed action sequences in the midst of all the CGI. Final verdict: 9/10 - Marvel's most inspired movie since Guardians of the Galaxy. |

I thought it was really below average; another by the numbers movie with dreary and desperately shallow characters and even ropier villains.
It bore very little in common with the 50 years of comics (bar names and characters alone) and I'm really tired of seeing my favourite comic book icons reduced to the lowest common denominator. 3/10 - utterly redacted. |

I saw this last night, without knowing the comics, and thought it was poor to OK. I liked the visuals, but somehow the characters didn't work. They were a bit too declamatory. Cumberbatch did improve as the film progressed, and he looked the part at the end. I didn't have much trouble following the plot, but I also didn't much care. I'd give it 6/10. Certainly no GotG. Marvel were wise not to market it much. Quote:
Doctor Strange... doesn't this introduce the idea that magic and the supernatural is real in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Up to now, (in the movies, I'm not talking about the comics), everything "strange" has been "explained" *cough* as advanced technology based on science.
I have to wonder, how many of those

Saw this yesterday and really enjoyed it. It was visually stunning, good performances all round, half decent story. One of my favourites of the MCU so far.

The movie was fantastic.
Yes, the plot is a little generic but the way they revamp an old formula with big concepts and state of the art special effects puts this in my top 3 Marvel movies. |
