Sun Pat No Added Sugar Smooth Peanut Spread
Ancient IDTV
13-04-2016
Been buying this for ages. Love the stuff. Now they've changed the packaging, and although the listed ingredients are the same, the nutritional information has changed. The stated amount of (naturally occurring) sugar has increased from 3.5g per 100g to 5.3g per 100g. I don't think the new version tastes as good, and it seems a bit runnier. That might be my imagination, though, and I need to try both versions side by side to confirm the taste difference.

Anyone else on here buy this stuff, and if so have you noticed a difference in flavour?

It seems pretty unhealthy stuff full-stop, but the American brands always seem to contain an excess of sugar, salt and palm oil. Far better to pay more for one of the organic brands.

You reckon? The ingredients are:-

Peanuts, 95%
Stabiliser: E471
Peanut Oil, 1%
Sea Salt

I have tried other peanut butters before, including Whole Earth 100% peanuts, but I found this Sun Pat one to be ideal.

I think I'll have a wander around and see if I can find some of the 'old version' on sale, and stock up on it.

Peanut butter should have nothing more than peanuts in it. So sun pat is rubbish!!

Which peanut butter(s) do you recommend?

I buy SunPat no added sugar peanut butter and my latest jar was the new design. I haven't noticed any difference in taste - it's as scrummy as ever.

To all you food snobs, it contains only peanuts, peanut oil and sea salt.

Peanut butter, very easily made in a food processor at least you control what goes in it.

Yeah, I went there, don't be mad!

I've bought a few jars of the 'old version', and compared it directly with the new one. The new one is definitely darker in colour, smells different, and tastes different (worse imo).

smooth peanut butter is an abomination. Crunchy is the only one worth having

but the taste of crunchy has gone down hill since the new packaging - I now buy supermarket own brands

I buy ALDI's own. It tastes fine to me although I've not really compared it to other brands.

I wonder if Sun Pat have removed the sugar they used to put in because of all the recent publicity about added sugar.

They have made a no-added-sugar option for ages. You can still buy the ordinary one with sugar added.

Ok, never seen it in any of the stores I use.

I got a response from Sun Pat. They confirm that the recipe has not changed. Regarding the changes to the nutritional information, they say that the levels of sugar naturally present in peanuts varies depending on seasons, and the way the measurement is taken has been improved.

UPDATE I eventually ran out of the old recipe Sun Pat peanut butter, and couldn't find any more any sale anywhere. I have now switched to Sainsbury's Peanut Butter Smooth SO Organic, which also doesn't have any added sugar (and tastes good).
