Hi does anyone know when the funerals are for Doug and Josh?

Do you think Pam and Gaby will come back?

The synopsis on Sky says Josh's memorial service is on Monday not sure about Doug's though. Don't know why Josh is having a memorial service, wouldn't it be a funeral?

Maybe they'll have a memorial service because the funeral itself is off-screen, so they don't have to address the issue of half the Willis family not giving a flying wotsit.

they do this sort of thing all the time in Neighbours- its just spoils things completely and makes a mockery of the show,

Thats the trouble with Neighbours , they have some good story ideas, but the production , writing and execution are poor.

The viewers want to see Dougs funeral and Joshs funeral , so they are alienating the shows fans if they dont show them.

I remember when Daphne died, on the following episode there was a caption on screen saying " three weeks later...."

As I talked about on another thread, it would make some sense for Doug to be buried wherever Pam is living - most widows want to be able to visit the grave easily and she can't do that if it is on the other side of the country. So a memorial service for his friends in Erinsborough but actual funeral off screen would make sense. Josh though, his funeral would be in Erinsborough since it is where he was living and when his immediate family will continue living.

To be honest I'm not that fussed about seeing funerals - I'd rather they didn't bother than turn them into a farce like other soaps usually do, with punch-ups and the like! I think Josh ought to have his funeral shown as he died in such a tragic manner, but I agree with kitkat1971 that it would make more sense for Doug's to be away from Erinsborough.

I think I read that Doug's funeral would be away from Erinsborough - which would make sense. He hasn't lived there properly for 20 years.

I despised Gabby Willis the first time. No idea why. Isn't there another brother? Maybe Kristian Schmidt could represent Cody.

It's possible of course that they are saying memorial service rather than funeral because maybe Josh wasn't religious so wouldn't have wanted a church service and might be cremated in a private ceremony (non religious cremations can be very, very quick, literally only 5 minutes and often only the immediate family are there) so the only service there will be is a memorial one which is open to everybody - hence that is what is shown on screen. I think everybody that needs to be at Josh's funeral is currently in the cast except perhaps Amber. Sometimes aunts! Uncles, cousins don't manage to make it, especially if they live a long way away which Gaby and Adam both do. Some people do adopt the attitude that the deceased knew they were loved, they wouldn't want them to have to pay loads of money and have to take time off work, school etc to travel hundreds or thousands of miles for just one day.

My mother has several cousins that didn't make her funeral for various reasons, mostly were location. One lives in America, another was visiting her daughter and grandchildren in New Zealand, another's husband was too sick with Alzheimers to do the 300 mile drive down from the North East and couldn't be left with anybody else so people do miss funerals in real life for legitimate reasons so It doesn't bother me that much when it happens in Soaps.

If anything I find it more bothersome with weddings as they are planned months in advance so people can plan. But funerals, people can't plan when they die (generally) and the funeral has to take place fairly quickly so it is a case of selecting a date within the next couple of weeks and hoping as many people can come as possible but accepting some just might not be able to on such short notice if they have other things already planned which can't easily be changed.

Todd's DEAD! You could have been kinder with that one, we all have gaps.

It's like I've lost Doug all over again.

Well yes, I'm not a total bafoon. I've no recollection of Todd's death. I remember something about his work visa in the uk?

Codys death was a big deal. I just thought Todd had gone to visit his forgettable sister.

She's not dead surely?

Todd died several years before Cody. He'd started dating a girl Phoebe who felll pregnant and they agreed on an abortion as they were only about 17. However, he changed his mind and went rushing off to stop her and got hit by a car on the way.

It was quite a big deal at the time but if you weren't watching, easy to miss. I only saw it because they used his funeral as the excuse to reintroduce Julie Robinson (despite them never having ineracted onscreen) and her husband was to be played by Ian Rawlings who was a favourite actor of mine from Sons and Daughters so i started watching it again to see him.

Katie is still alive as far as i know but I don't think she's been mentioned since Todd's death which was more than 20 years ago now. About 93 i think.

Well I most certainly stand corrected.

Thank you for filling n the gaps. I remember Phoebie. She dated a boy that later dated poor dead Cody.

Great news about Katie.

Thank you for your time and indulgence, back to funerals..

Sue Jones might have a recurring role, now that Terrance has left. She won't have to put up with him! Lol

Sue did say in her interview about feeling more relaxed this time around, maybe it's because there was apparently tension between her and Terry Donovan. I'm really looking forward to seeing Pam, I wish they'd brought Gaby back as well.

Well that answers that question - doug,s cremation is private in erinsborough, presumably very quick which is why we won't see it and makes sense - if it is a cremation it is much easier (and less expensive) to do it where he died than fly him back. But the service will be where he has lived for the last 20 years and the other kids might make it off screen.

Josh's is in Erinsborough.

What i think they mean by 'memorial service' is what is known here as 'the service of thanksgiving of the life of ....' which usually happens in Church and is open to all mourners. the actual burial or cremation is separate to that, usually straight afterwards and often restricted to close famy only. Hence we're seeing th 'open' service but not necessarily the nittygritty of the internment of the remains.

In other words, 'memprial service' is just another name for funeral.

Sue and Terence were regulars for four years between 1990-1994 so it shows that Sue and Terence must have had at least a decent professional relationship if not liking each other as people.

They are also going to have been under contract so not easy to leave, even if they wanted to once they discovered there was a personality clash which they wouldn't have known before signing as they probably only met when they started working together.

Lots of people force themselves to work with somebody they don't like because they have no choice but they would take steps not to do it again later in their life/career - that might be the case here.

She just said she felt more comfortable which could well be true if she was no longer sharing most of her scenes with somebody she didn't personally like, and might therefore be more open to a longer return than she would have been if it involved working with Donovan most days.

It is all rumours of course, but the rumours that Donovan and Jones didn't get on have been around since their first stint. Just like the actors that played Joe and Lynne Scully and Melissa George and Dieter BruMmer over on H+A. Even Peter dean and Gill Taylforth on EE, it is common knowledge she had problems with him but managed to work with him for 7 years (4 closely) because she had no choice but i bet she'd be reticent about doing it again now.

Yes, and she might be more open to it when it doesn't mean working with Donovan.

Fictionally it would also make sense as well as now Pam doesn't have the responsibility of Caring for Doug and the difficulties of travelling with somebody with Alzheimers, she will have a lot more freedom to travel more whilst also feeling lonely and needing her children. So, it makes sense for her to have prolonged visits to them when they live some distance away.

That's what tends to happen when a parent dies. Depending on circumstances (health, work, schools) either the child (or children) visit the surviving parent as much as possible to help them transist to widowhood, or the surviving parent comes to visit their child (ren). Even sometimes moving closer to have that company.
