Panasonic DMR ES10
I have this Panasonic DVD Recorder and the problem is that when I try and write the name on the disc and press SET, instead of trying to writing to the disc the unit switches off and resets itself and then displays an error message.
Error has occurred Press Enter Please check the disc This happens on quite a lot of discs |

Mine did something similar and it was the laser gone bad.... you've done well if it's only just doing this, mine did it after being about 2 years old and only having recorded about 30 DVD's and played about the same. I chucked mine out as an economical repair wasn't really practical.

I have had it for about 10 years. Would a DVD Head Clean be required.

As a professional engineer the policy is to replace the laser, not attempt to clean it - and this is also the policy from the manufacturers, |

Lasers wear out with use. My Sony DVD recorder allows me to check the hours of use of the laser when used for writing and reading.
