Not helpful phoning 150 trying to get an answer on this - the advisor I just spoke to had no idea and sad "i'm not sure we can sell this" then I get put on hold and get an answer "there is an activation fee of £49" ..... say whaaaaaat?

Not happy with that answer at all

It probably hasn't filtered through to everyone in customer services yet, although you'd hope it would have before product change

sure would have!

Tried going 3 different routes - online chat with BT advisor, then community forums (which I got more help from than the BT advisor online) then phoning 150... again more help from community forum!

I fired off a complaint to BT

Do you have FTTC services at the moment?

I re-contracted this morning online without any activation fee!

Isn't there even less of a reason to take Infinity 2 now ?

It does seem so now that they have increased their base product speed by almost 37%!

every time I try to upgrade it keeps saying

You've entered a BT landline number. If you'd like to make a change to the account that contains this number, select "or enter details of another" and enter your account details.

I know my number is right
why does bt web site have to be so bad?

I phoned BT earlier and the person I spoke to (who checked with someone else) reckoned that existing customers would be automatically upgraded from 29th April. Maybe they're mistaken?

Time will tell on that, i'm thinking maybe the information has yet to fully filter through to everyone at BT

Possibly, but I can't see BT allowing another opportunity to tie you in for 12 months to slip by.

Me nether. What I mean is maybe the BT rep was mistaken about auto upgrades for existing customers?

Some people are never happy, its only the blink of an eye since half a Mbit was thought of as blisteringly fast.

If BT rolled out VDSL when it was actually a new technology it'd be fine. But it's 10 years old now (about 5-7 years old when they started to roll it out), and they're still using it in preference of superior technologies because it's a bit cheaper today (with no regard to the future)

It's not a case of "never being happy", it's about not dragging the country further backwards thanks to short term decision making

Not had the email about the speed increase yet..
Seems to be a bit of confusion of when it's happening and how to get the increase..

I'm on Infinity 2 but only get 41mbps and was thinking of downgrading to 38mbps but tier 1 going up to a max of 52mbps makes it a no brainer. The only downside is that the package currently has free calls anytime and current packages only offer weekend free calls.

You could probably add 'free calls anytime' to the package for a few extra pount a month and still end up saving on the broadband

Standard pricing (excluding temporary special offers and with no bundling) is:

Infinity 1 £25.15 (40GB/m data)
Infinity 2 £32.12
Infinity 3 £44.10
Infinity 4 £51.80
All with 18 month contracts.

Things are somewhat better with broadband + phone bundles!

Infinity 1 £21.00 (25GB/m data)
Unlimited Infinity 1 + weekend calls £26.00
Infinity 2 + weekend calls £32.50
All with 12 month contracts.

Things are MUCH better for new broadband customers, with discounts galore so maybe you saw a special offer?

Not sure about any email going out at the moment.

Regarding confusion, I didn't see any. At one minute past midnight, I logged in to my account at bt.com and selected 'Buy our Products' -> 'I'm an Existing Customer' -> 'What can we help you with today?' -> 'Broadband' -> 'Upgrade my broadband package' -> 'Fibre optic BT Infinity'. At this point, I was presented with BT Infinity 1 up to 52Mbps @ £25 per month and BT Infinity 2 up to 76Mbps @£32.50 per month, both including weekend calls.

I was already paying £24.55 for BT Infinity 1 with up to 38Mbps and weekend calls, so to upgrade my speed by 37% for only 45 pence per month was a no brainer.

Adding 'anytime' calls did appear as an option for £7.95 per month when I changed my package this morning.
