I've just been in the phone to BT and there is no need to sign a new contract as everybody who is on 38mps will be upgraded to 54mps on the 3rd of July anyway.
Has anybody else that's not done so had a speed increase yet? I certainly haven't. |

I received an email telling me my broadband has increased to 52 Mbps a few days ago.
After checking it was near enough 51.5 Mbps, so no complaints from me. |

I restarted my hub via Advanced Options on Friday 1st July and my download speed, tested via speedtest.net, is now just over 50Mb.

I did have 52, until my homehub decided to constantly restart while I was on holiday due to a fault on it, now back to 39mb.

Actually, re-reading when BT are supposed to up the speed, it wasn't supposed to be until 3rd July. I had it in my head that it was happening on 1st July, so restarted mine on Friday and now have 52mb max, so the speed of my line has been opened up. I have FTTP, so maybe that's being rolled out differently to FTTC?
I haven't had any emials from BT saying my download speed is going to be or has been increased! |

I can get up to 300mb but don't see the point. Do I really need to download a HD movie in 1 minute instead of 6?! It's an extra £32 per month to have 300mb instead of 52mb. Before fibre became available I got about 2mb via copper broadband, so what I have now is astonishingly fast!!
The main advantage of FTTP is that I do get the maximum upto speed and it remains very consistent, compared to FTTC. |

FTTP has the same standard packages as FTTC, except with the additional options of Infinity 3 and 4 (200/20 and 300/30). But not all of us want or need that kind of speed or to pay over £50 a month just for broadband. Infinity 1 suits our needs here, with the added bonus of not having to deal with DLM.

Due to job uncertainty, I've not been in a position to commit to another 12 months yet

Has been enabled for about 3 weeks for me, 50/10 consistently with minus a few when it's busy. I don't use the HH though that shouldn't really make my difference

Reset my router and no change in speed.
In other news, I had a letter from BT today inviting me to check out my deals online. It says I am currently on BT Infinity 2 and can have a 30% discount to £28 per month. In reality, I'm on BT Infinity 1 and paying £25 per month. I'm unsure if this is just BT being useless, or a cunning ruse to get the unsuspecting to click on a link and unknowingly upgrade to a product they didn't want or need. |

I haven't signed up to a new contract but do have 52mb since 1st July.
See BT price changes from 3rd July http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/d...om-3-july-2016 under "What are you doing to improve service for all your customers at this time?" it says: "We're increasing the speed of BT Infinity. If you're getting a maximum speed of up to 38Mb at the moment, that'll increase to up to 52Mb. You don't need to do anything to get the extra speed – we'll simply let you know when it's done" They didn't let me know it was done! |

OK thanks for clearing that up for me, i didn't realise you had the same choices with FTTP as FTTC. An extra £32pm for 300mb is a bit steep.
(except for the two people who have paid millions for BT's FTTP on demand) |

Just checked my IP profile and it's set at 31mbps.
When I was on the "up to" 38mbps service that was understandable. But now it's an "up to" 52mbps service, shouldn't the profile have increased proportionately? |

31Mb may be the highest speed your line can support.

Well, my BTInfinity 1 is stuck at 29 down, 6 up, presumably because my service is provided on an overhead cable. I still get nagging emails from BT offering me up to 76mb with Infinity 2, when they've already told me that the maximum download I can get is about 42mb. Pretty shoddy all round, to my mind.

But at the same time, BT are "encouraging" me to upgrade to infinity 2 with special offers, saying I should get 49 - 64Mb with a minimum of 35Mb on my line.
Doesn't seem to make sense. Not a comprehensive list, but you could try a few of the following ideas. 1. Use a short "Twisted Pair" cable from the BT socket instead of the cheap 3 metre line cord supplied with the router. I use http://www.tandyonline.co.uk/high-sp...able-0-5m.html 2. Make sure you’re connected to the "Master Socket" and not an extension. 3. Is your "Master Socket" faceplate modern, if not consider changing it. 4. Remove underused telephones on extension sockets. 5. Don't keep resetting your router. 6. Keep the router away from other electrical items. 7. Make sure the router cable from the BT socket is not buried in a mountain of other cables. |

Have you done all the usual things at your end to try and get a speed improvement?

Thanks for the advice, but I don't believe there's any issue with my internal set up. My IP profile is set at 31Mb out of a possible 38Mb. I receive 31Mb wired and 30Mb wireless inside my home. I was under the assumption that as the theoretical maximum line speed has been increased, the IP profile would increase accordingly. I currently receive 81% of the potential speed available. Therefore I would have expected my speed to increase to somewhere in the region of 42Mb as a result of BTs new "up to" 52Mb service. So far that is not the case. Perhaps it's a gradual roll out and not every exchange/cabinet has been increased yet. That's why I asked if others had seen an increase. I will employ some patience and wait and see. |
