This year's Jamie Raven/Darcy bloke. He was pretty good but sounded a bit nervy and needed to slow down the banter I thought.

just watched it and he was very good so I expect we'll see one of the papers trying to tear him down and "expose" him sooner or later

There are YouTube videos being made as we speak trying to explain away his tricks.

If he was a real magician and not just a long winded trickster setting up the outcome I would be impressed.
Next time turn lead into gold.

What do you think magic is, Simon?

"If he was a real magician"

Give your head a wobble.

I really like this trick. There was a very very good magician on America's Got Talent with a very similar act, and I enjoyed it then too. Although I don't think he revealed the 'star' by cutting it out of paper, I think he had photos in an envelope. Still cool though.

I think he just turned the notebooks upside down when he put them on David's/Amanda's hands. So every page would've said Beckham's and tea. Then all he needs is a ready cut card of beckham and a pre bought can disguised as orange soda. Some special effects with the electric and smoke and hey presto.

THATS IT I Thought it was something like that or there were more pages with the beckham name and tea written on them, That way he placed there hands on top of the book telling them not to move and then afterwards throw the books away as far as they can so they cant examine or look at them.

He was good. It's magic, we all know it's trick or illusion but I just wish people could loosen up and enjoy. Keep going at this rate there will be no magicians or illusionists. The unidentified masked man seen to that one.

No, that is not the method.

If you actually wanted to learn and understand magic then the principle he actually used is a very old standard one that you would probably learn about very quickly if you start with card magic.

Or is the object just to try and ruin it for everyone else with an imagined gain in status?

Put some work in and then let everyone ruin your many hours of work and then you will have learnt what it feels like.

It was a decent trick, but please people get a grip. If it ain't Tommy Cooper or Paul Daniels then what is left ?

^This. Why cant people enjoy the performance without posting their theories? Do they want to be some kind of Digital Spy magic Svengali

He was my favourite of the night but then I always prefer something a bit different to the usual singers and dancers.

The key to the trick is the pads. If he wanted to read your mind, he would just ask you to think of someone.

Throwing the pads onto the stage ensures that they can't be inspected afterwards, revealing that David Beckham and Tea are written right through them.

The shock finger thing is based on the old Van Der Graaf generator principle from school. He is a 'charged' object and when he touches a conductive non-charged object (that is earthed) a current flows. Ouch

...and then this gets ignored and they carry right on. What part didn't they get?

I'd wait until they are singing their favourite song at their local Karaoke and sit in the audience singing a completely different song louder than them and totally ruining their act.

(And with clever clue dropping like that, you could instantly replace Penn & Teller! lol)

What's your problem?

Do you like solving puzzles? Do you watch murder mysteries etc?

That's all we're doing.

DS is full of spoilers and people making predictions...

Pretty much this. ^ He did it well, if that's something. They have similar books with coloured and blank pages for kids' magic shows.

Since quite a few people feel this way perhaps it would be best to have a separate thread discussing how it was done with spoiler alert so if people don't want to see an explanation they don't have to...

If I'm doing the same crossword as someone else in the room I don't shout out that the answer to 14 across is Blackbird. Why would I ruin it for others whilst still gaining enjoyment for myself by solving the puzzle?

That is the difference that you seem unable to see. There is nothing wrong in you thinking about it all you wish, but trying to ruin it for everyone else, including the actual man who put all the work into his act, can only be seen as you wishing to gain in imagined status.

That is the problem!

No books were at any time turn upside down, sideways or any other way.

If anyone has a genuine interest in this subject, then put the work in and learn the basics instead of status gaining for 5 seconds of fame on the back of someone else's real hard work.
