I wonder if the good people here can help with an admittedly trivial problem. I have just bought one of these machines. Having tried to set up the remote control to operate my (Panasonic smart) TV I find that the TV remote control operates the *Samsung but the Samsung remote control seems to operate nothing but turn the Samsung on and off and eject a DVD!
Thanks in advance.

If it's a new machine and the remote control is faulty, then they should supply you with another one for free.

If it's a second hand machine, then you can buy a replacement remote on Ebay.

If it's some other question you were trying to ask, then you weren't very clear.

Unfortunately Samsung (like a few other makers) have gone to the exclusive use of the God awful E-manuals which are about as much use as a chocolate tea pot.

The manual for your BD player TV recorder doesn't list any 'set-up' as far as making the Samsung remote work another brand of TV. The only reference I can find is to Anynet+ which is Samsung's name for HDMI CeC, this being a set of common commands between devices connected via a HDMI cable. So, the remote control for the Samsung isn't a universal or a programmable remote, it's simply the device remote with some ability to synchronise a bit of functionality such as Power On/Off and switching the TV to the correct HDMI input and that's about it.

....Having tried to set up the remote control to operate my (Panasonic smart) TV I find that the TV remote control operates the *Samsung....
Yep, that's CeC working

....but the Samsung remote control seems to operate nothing but turn the Samsung on and off and eject a DVD!....
Press the BD button on the Samsung remote control and then try operating the BD-H8900M.

Let us know how you get on.

Press the BD button on the Samsung remote control and then try operating the BD-H8900M.

Thank you again. I tried your suggestion and it works. Cheers

Apologies but as Eminem said, he is back again! No problems with remote control this time (and I am loathe to open yet another thread) but when trying to play something I recorded on my hard drive (*Hummingbird for those interested!) I am asked to enter my PIN number. The only problem is I have never had a PIN number. Is there any easy solution out there please? Any help greatly appreciated as always.

* I am actually going to delete because I realised I had seen this before, but I do need to resolve the PIN number problem.

This is quite a basic query, and it's something that can be found very easily by reading the manual. In fact, it can be found so easily that I'm not going to tell you the answer (and I strongly suggest no other FM does either) because if I simply tell you answer then you'll never learn to find these sorts of things out for yourself.

Read your manual. It is in the section headed Security, sub-section Change the PIN

You can download the E-manual from the Samsung web site by following the FAQs. Here's the link to that page http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/BD-H8900M/XU

BTW, the only reason most of us know the things we do is either we have used similar gear in the past and apply the same principles to newer gear, or we have a quick look at the manuals too. There's nothing more to it than that, so you are quite capable of doing the same thing too.

That is very fair and understandable !! I did have a glance at the manual before putting that post here but I could not find it from (an admittedly) quick glance. Cheers.

Your rather military approach worked - I have succeeded! Thanks for directing me, Chris.
