Turning light switch on causes projector to lose signal
I have just bought a BenQ W1400 projector and am very impressed with it. It is 4 days old and I noticed a weird problem tonight. When I turned on the upstairs light switch (which is near the projector), the projector lost signal for about 2 seconds and then corrected itself. It doesn't lose power, it just loses the HDMI signal momentarily. It did this every time I turned the light switch on.
Any suggestions? Thanks |

Probably the switch arcing as the contacts operate. This can generate loads of interference both carried down the mains wiring and radiated through the air. This is obviously enough to cause the projector to glitch.
Might need a new light switch to stop it happening. |

You might want to try a different HDMI cable. A very cheap, poorly shielded HDMI cable may be susceptible to interference. The ARC between my TV and my amp used to drop out sometimes when a light switch was flicked. Swapped it with another HDMI cable and it's been fine ever since.

Okay thanks. It won't damage the projector if I don't get it fixed though will it?

Normal (old) incandescent bulbs give minimal arcing, where fluorescent fittings give massive arcing problems. |

No it won't, but what kind of 'bulb' are you actually switching?.
