Whilst not confirmed as a definite plan they certainly are more open minded than they previously were.

I think this would be a very good step in improving the service. I work away a lot and hotel wifi can leave a lot to be desired often cutting out or dropping to painfully slow speeds. This can make Netflix unusable. The ability to download content or even buffer content would really help.

I wonder if this has something to do with them clamping down on region abuse. One of the selling points of NF was being able to watch it when abroad. Now that their getting stricter with that feature, one way to avoid to much "flak" would be to allow people to download content before travelling.

The recent change only effects cross region piracy.

No change in the service!?!

More likely responding to mobile phone networks reducing data caps and increasing prices making online streaming more of a luxury for those who can afford the premium prices networks are charging which continue to increase with the odd (time limited) exception now and again.

We think, I wouldn't be surprised if they stop you being able to view Netflix when in other regions. Your home account, will be just that, only viewable in your home country.

That won't happen, with the service being available in pretty much every market there is no reason to stop you accessing it, Netflix is full of young blood and they understand their market far better then competing services that place ridiculous restrictions on how content is consumed.

I would love me some offline viewing, I am going away on business will be on a 7 hour flight on Saturday and have stuck a ton of things on my tablet to watch. Would have loved to have put the new series of House of Card son there.

How many people actually watch NF when in other countries, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't that many. OK the odd business man, maybe people who go on extended holidays. But really is there any need to watch NF when away from home. When I go on holiday, I just watch the local programming, if at all.

I would, I love getting into bed and watching something before going to sleep, or lying on the beech or even when I have time to kill just waiting for stuff. Much rather watch the shows I want then stuff in languages I can't understand.

I would guess anyone with children will, the ipad nanny usually gets to go with them on holiday.

Providing you have good enough wifi etc to allow streaming, not many hotels do.

Hence the fact that off line viewing would be a good bonus.

^^ So back to my original point right at the top. I wonder if this is in response to them clamping down on DNS users. They need to offer something to people who are really in a different country to their home country.

This is simply down to Big Media dragging their heels.

Why shouldn't global licences be made available? The ideal would have been for EVERYTHING to be legitimately available for both rental and sale. Globally....

THAT is how you drain the swamp - otherwise you are pushing the customers back into the hands of the pirates - who were the first to shake the money tree....

Not sure what you are getting at, I am in Dubai at the moment and my UK account logs in fine and I get all the content available in the UAE. This will never go away they pretty much operate in every country in the world they, there is no reason to withold content when travling.

They are claming down on services that alter your geo location, not on travellers.

^^ at the moment as a UK Netflix user, if I travel to the USA I can access the USA's content. This service has been used for years by people (like me) using DNS\VPN to spoof Netflix into thinking we're in a different region, thus allowing us to view that regions content. Now NF are clamping down on this and one easy way, would be to stop the above service, i.e. you can only view NF in your home account region etc.

NF would get a load of hassle from people who really do travel abroad and like to still view NF content, so they offer those people the ability to download programming before they go etc.

For NF this is easier to do than play "chase" with all the DNS/VPN services.

Except that there are still ways to fool Netflix into where your home account is. If they did this it may stop multiple region changing but somebody could sign up on the US or Canadian version when really they live in the UK. Many people already do it for Hulu Plus .

You are confusing DNS spoofing with physically being in a country, they are not stopping customers accessing services while abroard. My Unblock and Uno Telly service no longer works but I can still log in if I am physically in another country. They are clamping down on publically known IP addresss that they are known to change geo locations.

How often do you check? Unotelly got the US region working and some of the other regions work intermittently. From what Netflix are doing to block VPN's it seems as though the unblocking services are now only likely to offer a small amount of regions to make it worthwhile for them.
