3 unbranded S7 Edge VoLTE

Since my recent update I now have a switch in setting for VoLTE
It was set to on by default.
LTEvoice is now showing at the top of my screen. Does that mean I can make calls in VoLTE?
I thought it was only branded phone that did that. Any help or comments would be great
Thanks in advance
Alex

Sounds like it. Samsung did April security update for Marshmallow on the S7 so looks like a carrier update.

I have the s7 edge. I had flashed it to 3 uk software to enable voLTE. I saw a report earlier on this and have just reverted it to stock unbranded. The voLTE logo is there and it does work!
Interesting! Glad this has been able to happen!

Over time it won't matter where the Android phone is bought. It's due the the platform fragmentation/carrier files not being originally present but with Marshmallow and N, we should see more and more Sim Free phones getting VoLTE and Wifi Calling. Depends on how much the networks push the manufacturers to put out the updates.

Now there is the question. Samsung typically do 2 years worth of support for their top of the range handsets. Anything else is hit or miss. Google offer these updates but really its up to the manufactures and networks to approve and push them out to customers. Theoretically Marshmallow should make this easier. Marshmallow was released in October 2015 so its taken 6 months for manufactures and networks to even start to do these updates which doesn't bode well.

With Android N it is hoped that Google can push these updates independently.

Sorry i should have been clearer. I'm a 3 sim only customer.

The phone is an unbranded bought from Carphonewarehouse.
Build Number MMB29K.G935FXXU1APD3

It would appear from other comments we don't need carrier branding which is a bonus.

Couple of questions as don't fully understand VoLTE
I was in Skelmersdale today where 3 reception is very flakey & the VoLTE was showing at the top of my screen.
Now back in Leeds with great 4G signal it doesn't show even when i make a call.

Why is this, is VoLTE a back up for when your signal is poor or what?

Can someone please explain the goings on of VoLTE

Oh and thanks for all the replies

Cheers

With 3, they only have VoLTE on their 800mhz frequency. You was probably connected to 1800mhz in Leeds therefore you didn't have VoLTE.

VoLTE hasn't fully been rolled out yet and even in places that have VoLTE it doesn't always seem to allow you to make calls over VoLTE.

I'm sure when they have finished rolling it out and they announce availability that things will be a lot smoother.

Also 4G 800MHz is the lowest priory so it will only connect to it when there is no signal on 3G 2100Mhz or 4G 1800MHz. You will only see it occasionally.

Thanks for those recent replies guys. I'm beginning to understand a little now.

But not fully, I will read and learn. I was resigned to not having it as I like unbranded phones.
But now it a bit of a unexpected bonus 👍
