Meanwhile Microsoft said they are committed to their burning platform. They problem is with such poor sales how long will retailers be committed.

I prefer 8.1 on a tablet, too. In W10 they removed most of the gestures and it's just tap somewhere like you would click with a mouse. I have Surface 3 Pro with 8.1 and Surface Book with 10, I feel restricted with the Book, 8.1 feels more natural on a touch device for me.

It seems to easy but "they would say that wouldn't they".

I don't know why they are committed to ARM chips. Why not x86? They could have a mobile facing and full windows when docked. It may not be much but it may give them something.

Committed as into a mental institution? Clearly not committed enough if the result is to go by. Or just incompetent? I do not know if the insider programme has anything to do with it, but sometimes it looks like they expect insiders to find all bugs for them. Windows 10 for PCs is in a better shape, but still far from what I am used to from earlier versions.

"We believe in this product's value to business customers and it is our intention to support the Windows 10 Mobile platform for many years"

not bothered about normal users then, only courting the business ones.

Its a super case study to any GCSE pupils who want to know how not to launch and maintain products.

A few years ago i used to manage mobile phone shops and remember arguing with both the Nokia reps and the Windows mobile reps that they were making a huge mistake not going with Android. Ive always thought that Nokia styling with Android functionality would be a huge winner but it seems both are going to eventually die.

I think most people, even within Microsoft and certainly those who worked for Nokia, knew Android would have been better - or at the very least, supporting both (a company the size of Nokia could have hedged its bets and seen what worked).

But we all know the real reasons, and the long-term 'plan' when Elop came in.

A sad end to Nokia, which may well bounce back to a degree because of its name and (not too badly tarnished) reputation - but it will never be the Nokia we knew and loved, that created lots of exciting hardware and innovated on design.

What we'll likely get is cheap goods from China rebadged.

Although Microsoft Lumia looks a very nice phone from what I have seen of it. I have never really been a big fan of Windows phones due to the lack of some apps from the Windows App Store.
I have also never been to keen on Nokia phones but I know the Nokia brand has improved a little over the years.

Nokia was already in a deep trouble when MS Eloped them. At least Nokia people got a few more years out of it before Nadella rationalised them all away.

Nokia had major issues internally, so all wouldn't have been well without new management for sure, but Elop wasn't the solution.

As you say, it got Nokia a bit more time but only while MS was committed to support it. The fact is, the demise was pretty much set and a countdown timer started.

Only drop the Nokia design if you have something better to replace it with. Don't move backwards, please.
