All the people on the Co-op advert, eating like pigs at a trough, no manners whatsoever.

They've been running a while now, but the McVities ads. I love kittens and other small fluffy animals but if one of them crawled out of a packet of biscuits I sure as hell wouldn't want to eat those biscuits ...

I'm feeling a bit sorry for Louise Redknapp at the moment; reduced to doing Mecca Bingo rather than the holiday adverts she and hubby did a couple of years ago

I agree with you that is terrible and wasteful behaviour.

I'd reckon it's most likely they had the attitude of, "We're on holiday and we've paid for this, so we'll take as much or as little as we want".

This kind of attitude can be seen in all age groups, but for me personally, I'd say I've seen this kind of attitude displayed most by the baby-boomer generation, certainly the younger half of the boomer generation (ie the one who are now 55-65 years old).

This demographic (55-65 years olds approx) seem to have the worst attitude and a chip on their shoulder. Generally they seem to hate the elderly - or at least the cost of the elderly, whilst have a poor opinion on those younger than them with opinions such as the 30-50 years old don't work as hard as they do, or that anyone under 30 is a waster or are wrongfully entitled.

I don't know why their attitude is so negative. Maybe its because they are unhappy with the way the world is today (this was the generation who were going to change the world) or maybe with the current financial situation they are worried about their retirement, and instead of blaming their own generation for the situation (ie their own generation have been in political power since 1997 with Tony Blair & Brown) they blame everything but themselves (young people, elderly people, foreigners, the internet ect), and thus their terrible and pessimistic view on things.

Again before anyone has a go, I'm talking generally, that the younger half of the baby boomer generation are the most dissatisfied and discontented demographic in Britain today. I'm sure they are plenty of individual examples of happy, contented 55-65 year olds, who repect elderly people and want to see those younger than them do well. Sadly though I think those people are in a minority. If they are the majority then they are centainly the silent majority.
Oh dear why the grudge? For your information, sorry to disappoint you but I am 62 and, together with everyone else I know in that age group, absolutely nothing like the way you describe. i suspect there are many more of the same so you can't say we are a silent majority. This started off as a reply to Istvan's post about greedy people at his guest house, so why turn it into an ageist rant?

ETA: And btw we DID change the world in some ways, music, fashion, and most importantly women's rights and gay rights (known then as Women's Liberation and Gay Liberation) and I for one am bloody proud to have been around in those times to actually watch history being made.

Phew......now back on topic....another vote for the Co-op ad with the filthy eaters, always shown when I'm just about to sit down to dinner.

The Asda one is compelling, I can't not watch it due to its macabre awfulness! Is it the idea that the family are werewolves anyway and then go to Asda to buy cheap Chinese polyester tat to dress up even further?

Just saw an ad for something called hungryhouse.co.uk. Sofa full of youths stuffing their mouths like starving refugees. How is that appealing?

Always reminds me.of a letter in Viz relating to a Pot Noodle promotion that was something along the lines of:
"If the makers of Pot Noodle are reading then I'd like to inform them that no, I didn't find a poodle in my Pot Noodle but it smelled like one had been in there for a shit"

I meant 'change the world' in a political and financial/economical sense, which overall there has been little change.

And with regards to the younger baby boomers I have no grudge at all, merely airing my own observation that the type of greedy and insular 'I, Me, Mine' behaviour is most noticeable in the 55-65 age group. This was as a side point to Istvan's obseration in his post.

Also I did say that it was only my personal observation, and I did acknowledge that it was possible that I was wrong. However the majority of this age group that I have dealing with or personally know are as I described (a generally downbeat or outright negative attitude to the cost of the elderly, younger people, foreigners, politics, the economic future) whilst also being the age range most likely to create a loud scene in public ("I demand to see your manager or supervisor") if they personally feel slighted.

Either way I'm sure I never said that my opinion was in someway fact. I'm happy for you as a member of the younger baby boomer generation that you are happy and content and have nothing but a postive outlook.

However I don't see how it is ageist to point out (again my own observation) a negative personality trait in the younger baby boomers. For balance I will give a positive personality trait for the 55-65 boomers (again my own obseration). I have observed that they are the most generous givers to charitable causes, both financially and in the giving of their spare time. I hope this is not ageist again everyone who is not a younger baby boomer.

Maybe they are going for both the youth market and the nostalgia market at the the same time. I can just imagine the meeting where they came up with this idea.

Ad Man 1:- We need to come up with a new and original campaign for our client McVities.

Ad Man 2:- What demo are we looking to target?

Ad Man 1:- Well the market research shows that children, teens and the elderely love biscuits, but the demos covering 21-65 are not buying biscuits as they are seen as either old-hat or a unhealthy.

Ad Man 2:- Right, so we need something to get the young adults on board, as well as appeal to those in their 30's, 40's and 50's.

Ad Man 1:- Exactly. So what do the young adults like.

Ad Man 2:- I seem to remember they love to go to things called Raves and partake in mind altering substances.

Ad Man 1:- Good, we might be able to use that. How about the mid 30 to 50 demo? Isn't that the nostalgia period.

Ad Man 2:- I think your right, so we should try and tie this campaign to something from the 1980's.

Ad Man 1:- Yeah, now what about the 50-65s?

Ad Man 2:- Got it. They love fluffy baby animals.

Ad Man 1:- Yes. Now how do we combine mind altering substances, the 1980's and fluffy animal?

Ad Man 2:- How about we imply that these biscuits are like these Rave drugs?

Ad Man 1:- OK, and they make you hallucinate fluffy animals appearing out of your biscuit packs. Now if only we could get that 80's connection.

Ad Man 2:- How about we just play some old 1980's theme tune as the soundtrack?

Ad Man 1:- Brilliant. Now all we have to do is send our bill to McVities and everything is done.

It's just bloody awful!

"Can a car make you look amazing?"

Of course not, you narcissistic, delusional, self-obsessed moron.

And "amazing" isn't the only positive adjective in the English language. Amazing as that may be.

1. Christmas ads anytime except December.

2. Typically awful oak furniture land advert. Or whatever they're called. Jingle bell music and everything.

No further comment.

I'm torn between "Ouch!" and

I was lucky in that mine was put in while I was out for the count. I wouldn't fancy being awake while they shoved it up there. It wasn't huge fun when they puled it out, but it was only the last moment when the final bit emits that I felt discomfort.
Very lucky - mine was done 43 years ago, and I still wince at the thought!

Amazon fire stick.

With that obnoxious 'fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down,' vile git Clarkson.

Hate him so much!
That makes another one of us - wish they'd stop inflicting the obnoxious ass on us!

Another TV ad they keep digging out that we really hate is the Qooker one ...that woman's voice is dreadful ...especially with words like 'warm' and 'water' ...and others.
Apart from the atrocious price, her voice would put me off buying it anyway!

the ad for the Set-top box that "Allows you to watch one program while recording three others" THREE I have trouble finding even one worth watching, but a friend of mine used to do things like that, in fact he recorded everything and only watched them alter, he never watch anything in real time including the News, in the end he has got so far behind that he thinks that Maggie Thatcher is still Prime Minister
That's the Sky Q box, but you're right when is there ever 4 unmissable shows on at the same time?

I'll take amazing over awesome which it seems to be the current overused American buzzword of the moment here in the uk
