"Order your sofa for Xmas!", so you can watch their Boxing Day Sale adverts where your new sofa will be half-price.

Do you reckon they think we're unaware of Anna Kendrick's Cup Song?
Anna Kendrick - One girl, one cup
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmSbXsFE3l8

Heinz Beans @learnthecansong. who the hell sits around playing a tin of Beans ?
Especially one that's been opened and could slice your hand open.

I thought the recording of concerts and sporting events was prohibited anyway?
I only did it at a student gig when the lovely Gabrielle Aplin played at Keele in 2013. I later realised that the quality on my phone was appalling.

The Holiday Inn adverts: Who wants to go to SLOUGH or DROITWICH FFS?
That is the point of the ad. Holiday Inns are so good they even make shitholes appear appealing.
To that end, they've just built one in Stockport!

The Park rip-off ads. for people who can't handle money, pay into this scheme and are then stuck with buying all their stuff from Park.

At least the 'young mum' isn't the usual munter but where is dad? Even the one where the kids are going to bed - no sign of the bloke who's actually paying for all that crap.

Did it occur to you that she could be a single mother?

And I see you've made the usual sexist assumption that we need men to pay for everything.

They are single mothers and the dole are paying for all their crap.

Well, you are also on benefits so I suppose the taxpayers are paying for your Christmas too.

when my little Tuli had had a stroke and the vet told me "Be kind to her" I drove home with my eyes so full of tears that I really shouldn't have been driving, and me an ex-Sergent in the 1REP (1st Parachute Regiment French Foreign Legion), but well cats are different
I did the same first time I had to let one of ours go, and stayed with her - but my son was amazingly waiting in the car park and followed me home to make sure I was OK.
Doesn't matter who or what we are, or whether we have cats or dogs - they're part of the family, and we love them.

Don't get me started on cats. I had to say goodbye to one of mine June just gone. Still makes me cry. If I go out I've always said to mine 'Cheerio, and be good'. Is there a 'grieving cat owners' thread around somewhere?
We keep seeing things around the house from ours that we lost this past summer, and still get upset about it. She was a dog, and the biggest we'd ever had. It was a sad day, and now we're starting to look forward with her cousins daughter (18 weeks old yesterday).

When my lovely boy Basil died in 2014 I cried so hard and for so long I gave myself gastritis! Still, it was good for the figure as I lost 2 stone. It was like losing a child. Even now, saying his name brings tears to my eyes.
Similar happened to me this summer - I was recovering from U. Colitis, and the very next day, it was back! As I say, they're one of us, and it matters.

Same with me with my children, they are all buried in the garden, I always promise them the "Daddy will bring you home" even if it is only bury them.
Yes, us too - we have three little boxes stored upstairs in a cupboard.

My boy is in the back garden too and sometimes our present cat goes and sits on his small memorial stone as if he's keeping him company!
They're all so perceptive - we have a really small dog, and she still misses her big friend, and curls up in her chair every day.

It would be really nice if more TV ads featured lovely cats and dogs - then, no matter what they were trying to sell us, we'd smile

They do glam it up.

Most people know that the losers are paying the winners, but so many vulnerable people out there that aren't protected.
Many years ago hubby and I bought a house that the owners were having to sell because of the husband's gambling debts. It really brings it home to you then. And this was before online gambling etc.

So why did you start a thread in the Advice Forum about a charity restricting the number of people going to their Christmas dinner?

Because I want people to have the right to go even if they don't celebrate Christmas.

Because no one should be left out if it is possible for them not to be.

No stereotypes here then!

I've never used anything like Park but i'm sure it's useful for families that need to save all year long.

Gambling, like any addiction, can have devastating affects on not just finance's but relationships too.

I'll stick to the occasional lottery ticket I think.

How did you feel when you found out about the reason they were selling? I know sometimes re-possessed houses go on the market and i'd feel terrible knowing someone had lost their home and I was buying it, but at least in your case they were still in control of the sale.

Mention of De Gaulle always reminds me of the film 'Day of the Jackal' (one of my favorites, and never seen a film where everyone smokes so much), and how the French army officers of the OAS wanted him dead. The officer in jail was convinced no French soldier would raise a gun to him and next thing he's being shot at dawn!

de gaulle not only sold out the Pied Noir French settlers in Algeria, but also the Maquis French Resistance fighters in the Vercor, when he called on them to take on the German army and then refused to allow the British to drop supplies to them, thus ensuring that the were eliminated. The Maquis were Communist resistance and he wanted to eliminate any opposition to his right wing party after the war.
He lived in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, there is another Colombey in France but in that town they are allowed to worship God.
In the LE we hate him and he hated us

I want to slap everyone responsible for putting that bloody Flash dog advert on the screen! It's always coming up whenever I watch anything on Sky Catchup along with that sodding Ariel advert!

I knew that would be the new TK Maxx advert before I even opened the link. I saw this for the first time yesterday and immediately thought that this going to get irritating after the 2nd listen and you can guarantee this will be on every ad break for the next 6-7 weeks

Christmas is best when it's more surprising? That goes beyond surprising to downright traumatising

We always asked the sellers of a potential new home the reason why they're selling (not that they're likely to 'fess up that the neighbours are a nightmare or anything). Anyway, as you say, the couple were doing this themselves, the house hadn't been re-possessed. We still felt awful though, we weren't happy in the house and eventually we divorced. I somehow felt it was the house's fault!!

That's cos it's a Procter & Gamble block booking! Surprised you don't also get Lenor, Olay or Pantene as well.

It's chronic! Those actors must be very hard up to allow themselves to be humiliated like that.

Good heavens, no wonder so many people wanted him dead. I didn't know about the Maquis. I know my Dad always hated him and am starting to realise why. (Didn't he try and keep us out of the Common Market - De Gaulle, that is?) He was a thoroughly bad egg (oeuf mal)!

Why do we get stuck with so many lousy politicians? Maybe it's the lust for power. Look at the poor US, what an awful choice they have over there. Still, ought not to talk politics on an advert thread!

The song sounds rather like Super Trouper - I wonder if ABBA sued?

Bill Oddie and Tim Brooke-Taylor with Denim aftershave!

Tune was similar to Super Trouper but just different enough to get away with it.

Pickwick LP's, remember those? I had a Saturday job in Woollies and was on the counter for those (and plastic flowers and insoles for shoes among other stuff). We had a record player and I used to play the Pickwick and Top of the Pops albums - bad cover versions of the hits of yesterday - "Alright Now" by Free among them.
