The one where JohnCleese is hitting the car is for SpecSavers! If he's eyesight is that bad, should he be driving?

The new Apprenticeships advert from the government. Completely out of touch.
For example; the guy is driving about in an Audi and acting all smug like he is on top of the world "it's like working for the FBI". In reality he will be on about 3 quid per hour (5 grand per year if that) and the insurance alone on that Audi would be over £2k per year. Not really something to be bragging to your mates about is it? You probably make 400 quid per month if you're lucky mate. Completely out of touch. The reality of the situation would be he is forced to get the bus to work every single day, no doubt whilst on the bus he dreads every single min of it knowing he is going to work for the next 8 hours and being paid shockingly for it. Probably hopes the bus will crash ending his miserable existence. |

That's a disgrace, but not the fault of the young people taking up the roles, or the companies desperate enough to pay that much for the staff.
My beef is the majority of apprenticeships which pay a pittance such as 3 quid per hour - this despite the apprentice doing the same amount of work (or more) as other staff, it's a grossly unfair and abused system in my opinion. Especially ones for apprentice bar staff/receptionist etc... |

Now lets assume that the apprentice is working 40 hours then they would be making £132 a week. Now lets say the same firm hired someone properly for the same fulltime job (ie not an apprentice) then they would have to pay the following (depending on the age of the employee):- 18-21 - £5.30 an hour, so £212 21-24 - £6.70 an hour, so £268 25 & over - £7.20 an hour, so £288 So if you had a low level/entry level position open up what are you going to do, hire a new member of staff (permanent or temp contract) or amend the role for an apprentice? |

And it also underminds the job market. Now Go-Ahead buses may give their apprentices just about the minimum wage, but legally the minimum wage for apprentices is £3.30 an hour. So the majority of firms will pay this rate.

There is no new talent in that industry, that is why they drive apprentichips. I know this, because I was one. Not for Go-Ahead, but a different company. I left because it wasn't right for my mechanical experience. And it isn't just in the buses, in every heavy vehicle sector they are struggling. So they bring in new talent. I think you're just bitter and twisted, you either couldn't get on to one, or don't have the wherewithal to make yourself attractive to one. It is noted how you fail to mention "Zero Hour" contracts, because you know that would smash up anything you've deluded yourself into thinking constitutes an argument. As if your ignorance needed any further spotlighting, no company pays qualified engineers minimum wage. I know agency staff making more than £3k a WEEK. Where does that talent come from? Apprenticeships. I think someone's spilled something on aisle 3 mate. Work hard enough, and you too might make more than minimum wage. |

They seriously need to take that prostate cancer advert off TV, with the annoying kid in a hat, explaining to his Dad about "Adult nap time"
Is that the best they could come up with , someone needs to be sacked for putting that on air

First of all, the word you are looking for, clearly struggling and at a loose end with, is "undermine", which is the most stupid thing I have ever read. I think the only thing that could possibly beat that, are the notes from the meetings where the Admiral Woman was signed off as a good idea.

Apprenticeships. I think someone's spilled something on aisle 3 mate. Work hard enough, and you too might make more than minimum wage. However I am at a "loose end" as you put it, thanks to being on holiday this week - so I'm more than happy to reply and cretique your post. Lets clear something up right from the off, yes I'm sure there are a number of good apprenticeships that do give those on them a proper education and a chance of gainful and meaningful employment. I am thinking of those in the aerospace & enginnering industries as well as the financial sector. However there is a large number of apprenticeships that are just jobs that have been amended in such a way to become an apprenticeship, so companies can save a few quid. It is these cases that I was talking about, as these apprenticeships should be proper full-time jobs that pay people at least the minimum wage. This does undermines the job market by applying downward pressure at entry level, as well as shortchanging those that are on these apprenticeship. Also you go on about an 'industry' as if my previous post was about a specific industry. I suggest your re-read my previous post and see that I am talking about apprenticeships as a whole. You then bring up Zero Hour contracts, well unless apprentices are on zero hour apprenticeships then this has no bearing on the arguement that I was making as I am comparing like-for-like (40 hours of work a week). Finally you have another personal swipe at myself with your remarks insinuating that I'm working in a supermarket on minimum wage and I'm bitter. Well yes I have done this kind of job - 17 years ago to help support myself through university. And I'll tell you right now that some of the funniest and most intelligent people I have ever met worked as shelf stackers and till workers, some of whom are still there to this day. Quite frankly I think your comments on bitter supermarket employees says a lot more about your opinion on people who make minimum wage. And with regards to your "undermine" remark, well done. I assume you have never mashed the keyboard in your life. I do humbly apologise for not proof reading every single post I make. And to be pedantic to your pedantic. I original missed the 'e' and hit the 'd' to create the word underminds (a word that doesn't exist - for now). You decided to highlight in your post that this should be corrected to 'undermine' which would of been the correct spelling but grammatically incorrect as you dropped the 's'. Oh, and by the way, you mis-spelt the word apprenticeship in your second paragraph. |

Well as a Financal Advisor in my late 30's why would I care about "getting on to one" as you put it?

Oh, go away FFS. I've been through two long term relationships since this sodding ad started. Must be at least 5 years old?

To all those moaning about the apprenticeships; I was a student nurse, working nights, weekends, 13hr days... And being paid £91 a month for the pleasure. Had 2 part time jobs. Woo!
