On a channel I watch there is the same show trailer on every godamn ad break. A show called Heartbeat(s) or something - it looks absolutely dreadful. Even when I fast foward it (thanks Tivo!) the ad drags on and on and on.

I hope it bombs.
So there's both a US and UK show called "Heartbeat".

And they're both terrible pieces of television.

OOOOHHH! Are you a "Community" fan? Nearly every "Community" fan I know
hates "The Big Bang Theory", viewing it as a dumbed-down version of the Greendale
show.

I watched an ep and liked it. Haven't got round to watching more as it's not on my radar, and I've got tons of other stuff to watch, but John Lithgow was in it and he rarely disappoints.

I haven't seen the ad under discussion so can't comment on it specifically, but it's well known that men and women treat their own health very differently. For e.g. as a general rule, men usually need nagging to visit a GP, so an ad targeted at men, giving us the facts about our own bodies, may not necessarily work in actually getting us to bother going, however an ad that targets loved ones with what signs to look out for in the men in their life, may be proven to be more effective. If that means making ads that make the wife or kids sit up and take notice of the old man's cough that he's had for four weeks and constantly says he's just got used to, then so be it.

Like I say, I haven't seen this specfific ad. If I do, I may hate it, but it's too simplistic to say give a man the facts about his health and he'll do something about it. The studies over the years suggests otherwise.

It's also simplistic to say most men need nagging to go to the doctor.
In fact that's offensive and that attitude explains perfectly how this advert was made.

The dad acting and being spoken to like he's a little child.
I won't say it's mens attitudes that need changing but people like you and the advert makers that think so little of us that they go with a stereotype rather than reality.

He's just rude.
I'm guessing they are trying to cash in on why he's famous by playing a similar character but they've failed and he's just rude.

Did I just see Alice Cooper advertising some crappy white-plastic hipster wrist gadget while wearing a golfing outfit and to the tune of some crappy watered down version of 'Walk of Life'???

This is as bad as when Iggy Pop turned into an insurance salesman

The Aldi advert where the woman is in labour, then a fully grown fat guy who is supposed to be her son (she just gave birth to?) is like “mum, want a lift?”.

Just weird, creepy and unfunny. Not sure what the hell they were going for there.

Yeah. At least when John Lydon sold out and did butter ads, they were funny.

What next, Angus Young plugging Saga Holidays? Or Patti Smith saying "Read the
"People's Friend"?

Beware there's a new Tesco advert about. This time it goes into the home of that annoying family and it's as awful as the rest. The only good thing about is that idiot son isn't in it.

Add Gogglebox to the list - people watching clips of TV shows and then being filmed while they read a script.
