I'd love to see Iwan Rheon on the show, now that his G.O.T. character was eaten alive by his dogs.

A more sensitive and fun character he could play - after all his 'Vicious' co-stars Ian McKellan and Derek Jacobi did Doctor Who. And he is Welsh after all. Bore Dar Iwan if you're reading this.

In one pic we learn that she's both a student and lives in Bristol. Oh and it's snowing in the opening episode too. Three things.

Hopefully there's more pics to appear. And that we learn Bill's full name/surname too.

Even though I've lived in Cardiff for nearly two years now, I have never seen Doctor Who being filmed! I've recently seen Sherlock & Da Vinci's Demon's being filmed, but never DW! Worse thing is that I only live about five minutes from where they are filming at the moment 😂

I thought everyone was saying on here before that pearl's commitments meant she wouldn't be in the Christmas special, yet that certainly looks like a Christmas special they are filming in the pictures and video with pearl in them.




In the pic you linked in the word 'shot', what has happened to the doctor I wonder? He looks very bedraggled and like he has been through the mill a bit so to speak.

Then again, maybe it's not a scene at all, and Capaldi just got mobbed by some doctor who fans.

It had been reported by the Radio Times and indeed Michael Pickwoad that filming would start in May - when Pearl was busy.

Oh I see. I wonder if that was just a mistake or if there was at one time an idea for a Christmas episode without Bill.

Either way I think it's safe to assume those pictures are confirmation that she is indeed in the Christmas episode.

While there is snow it doesn't seem to be actually set at Christmas (like most Christmas Specials have been) since all the students should be on holiday then and not on campus.

So could just be a normal episode set in winter

It's not the Christmas episode. There's been confirmation on Twitter etc that it is S10Ep1, including IIRC clapperboard shots etc.

There've been rumours that the snow is unseasonal, and caused by the monster... but even if that wasn't the case, it's perfectly possible to have a winter-set episode with snow and all that isn't anything to do with Christmas...

Bill enters the TARDIS

So looks like they've abandoned the smart red velvet coat already then.

I wasn't a fan of the scruffy t-shirts and hoody that he wore for the most of series 9. It was nice to see the red jacket in face the raven and beyond.

He has the white shirt in other scenes. They may just be alternating. Hope so anyway - the red velvet is one of my favourite Doctor outfits... and it would be odd to abandon it after its bombastic return in Hell Bent. If this isnt the Christmas Special, it could be back sooner / later.

Maybe filming the series now and the Christmas special later. Not unusual to film episodes out of sequence. Time of angels/flesh and stone was filmed before eleventh hour.

My assumption of it being the Christmas episode wasn't just the snow, it was the combination of three things -

One being that this is only supposed to be the first day of filming, and I was under the impression that they would want to/need to film the Christmas episode first.

Second was the snow.

If your right that it is indeed the first episode of series 10 then all I'm saying is that from the spoilers the combination of snow and presents makes it look like a very Christmassy non Christmas episode indeed, and also it seems strange that they wouldn't be filming the Christmas special first.





Not unusual for them to film episodes within a series out of order, but to my knowledge it is a bit unusual for them to start filming a series before the Christmas special that is due to air months before the series does.

Thanks for this. Same guy says later on that the Christmas special is due to be filmed in a couple of months.

Could be down to a number of factors - perhaps guest cast availability, or location availability, maybe the script needed more work, or this could be true for other episodes which needed to be filmed first, or perhaps there's a fair bit of outdoor filming and they don't want the whole 'Runaway Bride' summer look going on.

I'll be surprised if Bill doesn't turn up in the Christmas special in some capacity - be it a small cameo or other.
