Anyway, for me the "British Buffy" thing is concerning to me, as whenever a show tries to "be like Buffy" it tends to be a disaster. Aside from the "Plot A; Plot B" structure it's a very difficult kind of show to imitate as it's a distinctly Joss Whedon type of show. Possibly one of the things that didn't wow me about RTD's Who, he was trying to base it off a completely different show without having Whedon's talent for that sort of stuff (imo).
I'm very curious about how the show will turn out though; right now I'm just waiting for an actual trailer. I'd be very pleased to actually have something else to watch this year.

I also worry when other shows try to be like it, and one of the many reasons it usually fails is the writers lack creativity. Not to mention the reason Buffy worked was incredible writing and if it didn't have that, the premise of the show doesn't sound the best. And that episode was indeed terrible. But I am very curious to see what Class will do, the fact it is an older audience gives me more hope to be honest, as it gives them more ideas to explore. I don't think it'll be like Torchwood which was OTT

Clear and present threat, coherent story, Daleks that were menacing when it called for it, merciless killing of fodder characters, damage to Earth that sticks, bit convoluted but ultimately satisfying story arc, and best of all a regeneration that had a true sense of dignity to it. Eccleston's exit every time for me.
