One big question nobody has bothered to ask about Steven Moffat's final season on Doctor Who.

Will River Song return? And if she does, will it be the final time we ever see her? Or could she just appear in a look back clip of Moffat's Greatest Hits?

That last bit was tongue in cheek.

Highly doubt it. 'Husbands...' was conceived when Moffat thought it could be his last story and it's all been wrapped up. She's in the capable hands of Big Finish now. Vicar.

Maybe we'll get to see her TARDIS this time.
John Simm never had one. I think his Tardis got lost along the way. Probably pre-Derek Jacobi.

Missy's best bet is to seduce Clara, and steal her Tardis while Clara and Me fight over who Missy loves the most. Fanfic writers, please oblige!

Ot really a spoiler but isn't it a bit odd that DWM had a Torchwood cover rather than a Class one? A spin off thats been gone a while or one that airs first time this week?

Class happened to start on the day of Torchwood's 10th anniversary. Didn't know that until I checked.

We know Missy has a TARDIS somewhere as she was able to harvest "souls" for the Nethersphere throughout time.

Probably one she picked up on Gallifrey after regenerating from John Simm.

You may be right, but I still prefer to think of her nicking Clara's! With all that that entailed!

Not true - We know that Missy has at least one Vortex Manipulator and also has a hand device that she uses to (among other things) freezes time for the aircraft in the sky. She doesn't need a TARDIS for simple tricks. The Nethersphere is timelord tech, I doubt it requires anything extra.

Hasn't the Doctor mentioned Missy having her own TARDIS?

Tell the Doctor not me, he's the one who stated she had a TARDIS somewhere.

Wow, that's actually quite massive. I always wondered how long he'd go with the show. He's already outlasted pretty much every other person working on the show constantly.

There's someone different doing the music for Class isn't there? I wonder if he'll be taking over for MG on DW.

Think he's doing the right thing, Being on the same show for so long there's only so many times you can keep coming up with new creative themes for basically the same series. I don't think its helped some of the stories have been so bloody complicated trying to fit in the musical narrative must have been very hard,

for me nothing will ever match when we lost Amy and Rory it was just Genius

Yeah, guess that could be an 'audition' of sorts. Or Ben Foster maybe?

I always thought for a job like a composer, a job like Doctor Who is the ultimate gig. The sheer variety of content he can cover is simply immense, limited perhaps only by his own imagination. He's had the same job for over a decade, but in that job he's been able to score for sci-fi, fantasy, fairytale, thriller, western, period drama, whodunnit, urban, film noir, disaster flick...and countless others. Doctor Who has been so many things, so too must the music be. If I were composing soundtracks for television, I'd consider Doctor Who an amazing opportunity.

That being said I'd now love to see what someone else can do. And even just two episodes in I love what Blair Mowat has been doing with Class... apparently he worked with Murray Gold on some of the Series 8 content including Twelve's theme. I wouldn't be averse to him working on Doctor Who in future.

I think Murray leaving will be for the good of the show if I'm honest. I haven't been enjoying the show for the last two series and obviously most of that is down to the stories and Peter/Jenna etc, but I do think the music has declined in quality with the new era of 12 sadly.

What was bright, flowing and vibrant music for all the years before that even if an episode was under part could help enhance, the music since Series 8 for me has been so lacking and indistinct. I couldn't even tell you what Peter's Doctor theme sounded like, it's been that forgettable. The fact Class used the theme associated with Chris and David rather than his own spoke volumes to me...

Oh, and the fact next time trailers keep using Matt's I Am the Doctor theme rather than anything new shows how bad its gone in my opinion. It's so totally not suited to Peter's Doctor and is forever a Matt theme.

As I say, I think to bring some vibrancy back to the show on a musical front, Murray's leaving is for the best.

Not just Murray.

I really do think we're going to get one hell of an overhaul going into Chibnall's era.

I agree.

Has 12 got a theme? I never noticed it if he has.

I loved the music for 10 and 11. Murray's a genius - and he got two (well-deserved)proms!

But the music for the last two series has just been part of the general dreariness. It seems a bit regurgitated, mushed up and the opposite of outstanding (instanding?)

I don't know if that's MG running out of ideas, or if it's cost cutting at the BBC.

I agree. I tend to think it's a combination of the two, but as you say its become so wishy-washy and forgettable that he could have only composed one tune and that's been played on a loop ever since minute one of Peter's first episode!

I wouldn't mind hearing a bit more synth in the incidental music, like what we had in 'Into the Dalek'.
I've recently been rewatching 'Inside No.9' and composer Christian Henson utilises a nice balance of synth and orchestral, he would be ideal for DW.
Plus with the popularity with Stranger Things it seems to be in-vogue to have a bit of retro style music and can sound very distinctive for a programme.

I felt the Series 7 and then the Series 8 soundtrack was lacking (and I haven't forgotten how big a deal I made about certain vocal omissions from the soundtrack to S8 ) but Last Christmas and Series 9 have some amazing inclusions and it felt like Murray got his second wind to me... I can't wait for the Series 9 soundtrack and it's the first I've eagerly awaited in quite some time.

I still think someone new is for the best from Series 11, but this is a little defence of Murray's more recent work.

I really liked the Series 7 soundtrack, although I admit it petered out a little towards the end. The Series 8 one though was just so nothingy to me. Nothing stood out. I get that your trying to defend it, but for me, I can't even remember one good piece of music from the show now for two years. From what it used to be where there'd by several a year, that's quite bad.

I think in terms of music for the show I recently came across the Thunderbirds CGI reboot (I was changing channels I swear ) and was immediately taken by how good its music was.

Had a look online to see who composed it and found that it was none other than Ben Foster. The man who's been arranging Murray's music for all this time.

It amazed me that a kids show had a full on good soundtrack like it did. Some really good tracks there like this one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4LNsnxKeW8

If the music became more upbeat and had some life in it again like this, I'd certainly be a bit happier. The stories would have to be better though obviously
