I've been having drinks with sweeteners since the 1980s, when I was diagnosed diabetic at the age of 11. They don't appear to have done me any harm yet.

Could it have been stored incorrectly, e.g. In direct sunlight? That would alter the taste.

I prefer coca cola but do enjoy pepsi/pepsi max occasionally.

I drink it occasionally, so I can't say for certain that it's any different, however it may be just me but they seem to go flatter faster, and when flat it tastes like they are trying to poison my taste buds.

I've not noticed a difference. I prefer the Coke Zero taste but usually buy Pepsi Max (unless Zero is on offer) as Coke Zero is now in those stupid little 1.75 litre bottles. I prefer the 2l bottles.

Complete urban myth. A quick Google or a look on Snopes or Hoax Slayer dispel this.
Not that I buy cans though, they're too small.

All these fizzy drinks are a nice little earner for the bottled drinks companies and tbh I've lost track of all the different variants.

The only other bigger con is bottled water. The person who invented the concept should be knighted for services to the gullible.

Spell EVIAN backwards.

It appears quite a lot of people believe their drinks cans are covered in rat pee and that they can die from drinking a can of Coke. I've actually seen quite a few things flying around on Facebook about it. Usually from the same people that share those bogus vouchers for shops.

I doubt if it kills people but anyone who thinks mice and rats ( and birds) do not run over all food and drink in a supermarket warehouse needs to go visit one at night.
mice and rats pee continuously..

Why do we need pest control for mice?

"Pet mice can be cute and good fun but pest mice can bring unwanted problems to normal life and must be taken much more seriously. They can affect us in several ways.

House mice carry bacteria and viruses the most significant being Salmonella and Lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV). Salmonella is an important food poisoning bacteria and so mice in kitchens (and they will certainly be seeking out food) is definitely taboo. Pest mice habits of feeding sporadically in many different areas makes food contamination a certainty and food surfaces, utensils and cutlery and crockery is also likely.

Although mice cannot carry and transmit Weil's disease, they do carry another form of leptospirosis, which, although not fatal, can cause mild illness.

LCMV is a rodent-borne viral infectious disease that presents as aseptic meningitis (inflammation of the membrane, or meninges, that surrounds the brain and spinal cord), encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), or meningoencephalitis (inflammation of both the brain and meninges). Individuals become infected with LCMV after exposure to fresh urine, droppings, saliva, or nesting materials. Pet rodents can also carry LCMV but this is less common.

Mice can produce some 50-60 droppings per night and urinate frequently all over the place"

However, most drinks cans will be in packaging in a warehouse, it's highly unlikely that a rat or mouse will make direct contact with a can.

Not Fact.

If a beverage has more than 0.5% ABV then it is classed as an alcoholic drink and comes under licensing regulations.

They will eat through the packaging, they make nests with it or pee over the packaging and you open it, then open the can..

i expect if we watched our food from the moment its produced / grown (same with each ingredient) till we get it home, we would be horrified at what has gone over it or is in it..

We survive though..

I actively avoid sweeteners where I can - I consider them far far worse than sugar.

An occaisional red coke for me - absolutely nothing else will do.

On the other occasions i have bought it, it's always been quite a nice refreshing taste, but not now.

So just wondering if anyone has tasted this recently and has noticed a different taste to it”

I've had that once, funily enough with Pepsi Max. I sent a quick email to Britvic and they sent me a voucher as compensation. Was a dodgy batch.

Pepsi Max hasn't been reformulated in any way so you shouldn't be noticing a different taste.

Well i had to do a wee experiment this morning lol. I bought a bottle of pepsi max. I tried both, a drop out of a new can and some from the bottle. There is definitely a distinct strange taste from the can, but the bottle is how i like it!
Strange one though

There will be a distinct difference since one's in a metal container and the other, plastic.

I've never bought into the thought that cans taste different. The insides of the cans are actually lined so there shouldn't be any kind of taste difference in the drink itself. I guess it's possible if your tongue touches the can whilst you're drinking but I've never picked up any difference between canned and bottled. I think a lot of it is psychological.

A lot of craft beers are now being canned (there are arguments that the can provides a better seal and allows less light pollution) and I read an article recently where someone who swore blind that they could tell the difference did a blind tasting and actually couldn't tell.

I think it depends on how long it has been in storage, there MUST be some leakage after a certain amount of time. But it's more the plastic bottles, they aren't lined and the Plastic has chemicals of some sort in it.

I have drunk out of cans before though, it's not like it was the first time. It is a disgusting taste now from the cans.

I bought a Marmite chocolate bar for my husband before as he likes Marmite. I tried some and it was surprisingly good, but then chocolate and salty flavours often work well together.

I've just called the customer service number and was told that there was indeed an issue on the production of some of the cans of pepsi max. I just gave the code at the bottom of it and she knew exactly what it was. Seemingly numerous people have reported this problem, but it has now been rectified.
I am glad it is not my imaginiation lol.

She said she had tasted it herself, and also told me that it tastes like vodka has been out in it lol.
Problem solved though

Did they tell you what the contaminant was though. What if it was a secret test that turns all drinkers into werewolves. Beware the next full moon.

The Company alcoholic had been let loose on the production line.

As a Pepsi Max addict I would be very interested if you can remember some part of what you were told.

Just that there was a problem in the production. That there was a variation on the canning line. The woman is sending me out a letter detailing exactly what has happened. But that was the wording she used. Hope this helps
