Lucy is so very annoying!
(I have no doubt Bell and most of the others are genuine.) |

Dowsett is one of the few pros I find attractive. As a random side note.

Your son will probably admit how addictive it is too. It's never too late to begin - there's loads of different level rides that go out all over the country.
The most difficult thing is not the cycling, it's knowing what to wear to be comfortable over longer distances/different weather conditions, and making sure your bike fits as well as it can. I had two guys leave my ride early yesterday as they weren't wearing the right clothes (the secret in this weather is layers, layers, layers). ![]() He is in a cycling club and they say he is already to compete ![]() His parcels come to mine and am awaiting some scale that connect to something he wears ![]() One thing I will keep checking is his trousers... as I was stuck behind a cyclist for 15 mins and his trousers were see though I still see that image

I still see that image ![]() ![]() Sadly, it's usually the single men of A Certain Age and seldom a pleasant sight. ![]() I've been guilty of wearing translucent shorts, though not due to wear - apparently, the actual fabric of a couple of pairs of my bib shorts is quite see-through. When the RRP of those shorts is well over £100*, it's not something you expect**. *I paid less ** although probably why they were in the sales |

Does anyone think they're going to ride the Etape on the same day that thousands of other cyclists are riding it ?
or is the intention that they'll ride the stage but on some other day when there's no one there They don't seem to be getting any practise of peloton riding with lots of other riders around them |

Although I agree with you - more group riding is needed. |

Just in case anyone watching this doesn't realise it.............
we have a big thread in the Sports section for Cycling http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1849095 few more posters would be nice as it's a bit slow at the moment in the off season track cycling is keeping us going but there's not as much interest in that outside of the Olympics |

Forgot to post about the actual programme. Sorry if I keep going on about the same things, but...
Louie Spence's bike doesn't fit. If you watch the motorpacing bit, you can see his hips rocking - I suspect the saddle's too high. Not sure if the reach is right either. His comfort and power will both be affected. It must be giving him a fair amount of pain. I'm not surprised he's playing up. I'm still not convinced either of the weaker ladies' bikes fit either, which explains their still-poor handling and lack of power. Hugo is a total ********. Lying prat. The laps thing...I have to say though, I wouldn't have liked to ride tarmac as smooth as that with that much rain. Must have been slick as hell. I don't blame anyone for climbing off in that weather, especially if you don't have mudguards, and you don't know the tricks to keep warm and dry. I would have checked the forecast, and on seeing the rain, curtailed the training or got them on turbos. My opinions of Hayles and Storey are dropping even further. They're practically useless, and sometimes making things even worse. You should never ignore aches and pains as most of the time, it's a symptom that something is wrong. I fear they could be ignoring some aspects as either they don't know how to deal with them (Lucy's fear, real or not; Louie's dramatics), or think the contestants should just Man TF Up. I'd love to see them cover more of the basics, that could be of use to a relative newbie who's watching. Most of what they're currently doing is making cycling look dangerous, painful, and miserable to do. |

Bad mechanics.
Jodie's mech probably just needed some adjustment. Most sportives in the UK have a mechanic at the rest stop who could've done it, some have a mobile mechanic available. You'd get laughed out of the place for not being about to change your inner tube though. Or identifying the cause in the first place. (Mind, an experienced friend of mine did the Etape a couple of years ago, and had to retire a third in due to five p*nctures. It was only when he met me for a ride on returning to the UK and it happened again that I pointed out to him his melting rim tape had caused it. Something any beginner should have been able to identify, never mind several experienced mechanics. A couple of grand wasted for the sake of a 99p part.) Glad to see them all finish. |

O loved. This programme. To see them all finish a gruelling cycle was making me well up!. I love cyclinh two work about 3 times a week 20 miles each time and beat my boyfriend. But this! I would love to have the chance to train and compete. I was told I was rubbish at sport at school apart from swimming and sprinting. has anyone done this or attempted it? It's obviously emotional a takes it out of you. I don't have much emotion but I'll try.

Overall, I enjoyed it. It was nice to see the type of cycling I do on the TV. I was impressed they all managed to finish, despite their problems. Amused Hugo was the last to roll in. What an idiot. Quote:

My average Sunday club run is around 65-70 miles in Surrey - there are both shorter and longer rides at the same time. In a hilly area, an average club run may be half of that. You can have a look on the British Cycling website for beginner-type rides near you, or a local club may be able to help. If there's a track near you, there are usually taster days. A friend has recently started riding track and loves it. Another friend did her first race at Hillingdon a couple of weeks ago and loved that. It depends what you'd like to do. I usually enjoy riding a few hills and stopping for a nice piece of cake or well-deserved fry-up on a Sunday morning. Quote:

I'm still amazed Lucy managed 3 alpine descents despite days earlier saying she couldn't get round a hairpin. Play acting for the cameras ?
Just got told by cycling buddies that the col de ramas was taken out due to rockfall risk hence the distance reduced from 146km to 122km. Still a hard days riding |

Probably worn through the crack, which isn't always apparent to the user. In the past, I've had to diplomatically inform a few people their Lycra was only fit for the bin.
