The amazon prime - is it right for you article states you can't have a monthly sub in the UK, and therefore may be "harder to stomach than netflix"...

I know you can, the point I'm making is the article on the front page of DS specifically states you can't and you have to commit to a year as opposed to Netflix which you can have monthly.

They probably just made a mistake. Amazon haven't exactly been opening promoting the monthly subscription in the UK, even though it has been around since Amazon took over LoveFilm all those decades ago.

Let them know and the chances are they will thank you and correct it.

IMHO Amazon Prime doesn't hold a candle to Netflix. The only reason I have it, is because of the delivery service, everything else is just "Cherries on Top"

Amazon must think I'am different, they tell me about the £5.99 charge all the time for amazon video. The last few days now the new £7.99 charge for prime monthly.

Amazon does appear to have limited content however if you look and search it has more than you think. The problem is it's interface.

^Yes the interface is crap, I know why they do it, but I wish they'd separate Rent/Buy from Prime. I've got to the point now that nearly everything thats new I ignore as I know it will be to rent/buy, without bothering to check.

I know you can so they HAVE made a mistake as they say you cannot in the article. They say it is only in the US and no sign of coming to the UK, saying that gives Netflix an advantage

It seems that Netflix has always been a little more popular that Amazon Prime Instent.
Most people I know now have Netflix like me and my sister do.
Hardly anyone I know uses Amazon Prime Instent.
A woman in office at work used to use LoveFlim a few years back to get DVD rentals by post but I don't think she done that anymore and think she now uses Netflix.
Most pepole I know like me only use Amazon now and again to shop with.

I'd never pay £5.99 per month for Prime video but imo £79 per year for Amazon Prime is an absolute bargain. I've probably made my money back in the last year on deliveries alone and on top of that, I've been able to watch 'The Walking Dead' from the start for the first time for free. I've also watched quite a few good films.

I paid £59 for prime when it was on offer but have to say that I will be happy to pay the £79 when my subscription runs out. I pay more than that for Sky per month.

I wonder how often they do the offer.

I say that because I let my Prime laps from the end of February and was going to rejoin in November when they sometimes do the Black Friday discount but I had and e-mail from them yesterday saying the £20 off “offer ends Monday the 16th” but I did not even know about the offer.

Needless to say I’ve signed up again at the £59 price but their saying the £20 off is to celebrate them giving their new motoring program the name “The Grand Tour” but thought to myself there missing me so gave me the offer out of the blue.

Can anyone tell me if Amazon Prime offers 1080p HD resolution like Netflix? Also, what are the movies like compared to Netflix (i.e. age) and how often are new films added. Netflix hardly add any and when they do its often several years old! Previously had Now TV but low-res put me off it, plus still not many new films.

If you can provide examples of a few good films and shows on there that may also be helpful.

The movies are 1080 HD and my box is set to 1080p but I don’t know if the stream is i or p TBH but looks good to me and on par with Netflix.

Age of movie content for Prime and Netflix is, I think, governed by other more expensive channels showing the films first after they screwed as much money as they can out of cinema goers.

Some say Netflix has better choice but having both streams here it’s a subconscious choice on the day what one I use but to be honest only you can decide what’s best for your tastes so your best bet is to give the Prime 30 day free offer ago. It’s very easy to cancel if you decide it’s not for you.

^^ I think generally Netflix has a better selection of films. Amazon's failing is it's appalling layout, Netflix is miles better.

Amazon have been doing a lot of co-production in films and tv. Take for instant "Legend" featuring Tom Hardy. Its has not been on Netflix or Sky Movies either bit appeared very quickly on Amazon Prime. Also Amazon does seem to be picking up quite a few exclusive TV rights too. Lucifer and Mr. Robot to name a couple.

Netflix is good for Netflix originals like House of Cards and Daredevil etc.

Both have good points and bad. However the worst value for money is Sky Movies.
