Welcome friends! As we leave Pisa with full hearts (and stomachs), we crown a new champion: Aurora (quite literally) became the Conqueror of DSFE 76! While Norway is great and all, no one wants to go back there. So, we're going to head south to New Zealand! And where better to break ground in a new country than a town known the world 'round for having... well, broken ground!

DSFE 77: Breaking Ground in Christchurch!

BethnalGreen and I are excited to be your tour guides through this new, uncharted land. Hopefully, nothing like this will happen while we're there.

To join:
- PM me (jag02010) with your desire to take part.
- The epicenter of this contest will be somewhat similar to 76: for some new tremors, both the good AND bad countries have been sorted into 6 groups. In your sign-up PM, please rank both sets of groups (G1-G6 and B1-B6) from 1 - 6, with 1 being your first preference. We will do what we can to give you countries from your first choice groups!

Here are the groups for GOOD COUNTRIES (with microstates indicated):

Spoiler

And the groups for BAD COUNTRIES:

Spoiler

If you send us specific countries you want, you're going to cause some undesirable commotion that might shake things up a bit too much. You don't want that, now do you?

- Third countries that no one wants (looking at you, Western Asia) will be announced as available on the thread at regular intervals once the sign-up period is over.
- The sign-up period will be open until Sunday at 7pm, unless we get lots of sign-ups beforehand.
- This contest, we will be releasing songs as people sign up! I will confirm your entry with both your good and your bad countries.

For any new player (or those who can't remember, I guess) here are the rules:
1. Your song cannot exceed 5 minutes.
2. Cannot be older than 2005.
3. Cannot have been a UK top 40 hit.
4. Cannot have been entered in a National Final or at Eurovision.
5. Cannot been entered in a previous contest, though if it was a non-qualifying song from a DSFE national final, that is okay, though probably will be frowned upon by The Good Food Guide.
6. At least one of the singers performing your song must have been born in the country, have ancestral links to the country going back no further than grandparents (full ancestry), or be a permanent resident of the country presently. You may be asked to provide evidence if the link isn't obvious.
7. Covers ARE allowed as long the song adheres to rules 1 to 6 above.
8. You can't change your song once it's been accepted, so choose wisely.

Who will hit us with a Magnitude 10 entry? Who will barely register on the Richter Scale? All will be revealed in time. But, for now, good luck - and hold onto your hats. This will be one bumpy ride.

Excited for this, ranking my groups now!

Just thought I'd point out that Romania is in both B2 and B3.

Oh no, whoops! Thanks for pointing that out.

I'll replace Romania in B2 with Azores (Portugal)! These are the new groups for Bad countries:

I've sent in my requests. Foxi I don't have a list either, but some countries do obviously stand out as nicer than others, so I would still advise you to go with a list regardless

As this is our fifth contest of the year, some entries are nervously watching this contest to see if their Champion of Champion dreams are about to go up in smoke. Here are the songs which could be pushed out of the qualification spot if a song in this contest finishes higher (except 1st) or wins a round throughout the contest (turn away now if you are a Chicken from Kiev

Australia - Joel Adams - Please Don't Go - ChickenFromKiev (16th)
Belgium - Mustii - The Golden Age - ChickenFromKiev (25th)
Gotland - Full Of Keys - Me And The Sea - JonahTakalua (19th)
Ireland - Walking On Cars - Speeding Cars - ChickenFromKiev (4th)

I feel personally targeted.

I'm not going for lists because I want certain countries, more because I don't want certain countries.

Give it a couple of contests and I am sure there will be an whole bunch of people with a couple of songs "on the bubble" so to speak (or it could just be an whole bunch of your songs ).

As for not wanting certain countries, you could just as easily get them by playing the waiting game. Although I guess you won't be blaming yourself for going after a certain group.

I see this happening honestly.

I've sent my lists, there are only a couple of countries I don't want and they're in my 5th and 6th groups so there's a pretty good chance I won't get them.

I'm just going to wait, thanks for the advice though. Honestly it makes no difference to me what group I pick, I know so little that I'm not sure how one is considered good/bad anyway. As long as I get a fair draw and not three terrible ones For example, I would say that Romania is relatively 'good' because I know a lot about it.

I work with a Romanian woman and have been explaining the good and bad countries in this contest and basically that sometimes Romania is in the good list and sometimes bad. It's really hard to explain why lol

Well, I might know what your country is...

I'm assigning countries internally right now; I'll send people before the end of the day today who have registered. Just wanting to make sure we have a good balance in our first group of entries.

I don't know whether to feel excited or terrified.

If I sent my PM at the 9-10pm hour will I get my countries today or will I have to wait?

I do not have lists either so it is seat of my pants stuff. My best placed entry last time Leichtenstein was found in 5 minutes.

But with a Qualification Rate of a lousy 9% I am bloody hungry for at least a top 10! I mean just by chance it is time right?

I'm sure you're going to do fantastically this time! If you send by 9-10, you will get your countries today. Just let us know when you're ready!

I don't know, it took me 8 contests to get into the top 10 and that was only 9th! Obviously anybody can win with the right entry but don't feel too down about not qualifying.
