QF4 Review

LUXEMBOURG: Feels like last place.
ALAND ISLANDS: Decent
ALGERIA: I enjoy this but I don't know if it stands out enough
FINLAND: Weak singer and weak song
NEW ZEALAND: Repetitive and boring
SWEDEN: OKay
GIBRALTAR: Chicken must be really happy that Foxes is back. Nice track
KALININGRAD: Feels... old. Not into this
NORTHERN IRELAND: It's interesting that she's been entered in the contest many times before and never missed the final. The song is not bad but it seems to me that she's trying too hard to look and sound cute, it's somehow annoying.
FAROE ISLANDS: She's mubling too much for my liking but the song is kind of enjoyable
UKRAINE: Almost decent, I was hoping for a strong chorus but I was dissapointed.
SLOVAKIA: Next?
PORTUGAL: Rap is very unpopular on here but this is good and powerful rap. Will be a shame if this doesn't make the semi, especially considering that this QF is full of sh*t.
ESTONIA: Totally indifferent
LEBANON: Major worldwide stars tend to reach the final but never crack the top 10 on here. Yes, it's a very safe choice for Lebanon but the song is great.
JERSEY: Weak and very dated
ALBANIA: More cheap female pop
BOSNIA + HERZEGOVINA: What, is the song over? Sorry, I fell asleep.

This QF was my personal hell.

A couple of late thoughts, joint between QF3 and QF4 since I don't have much time

- One horrendously unappreciated song in QF3 and QF4, I can see both going out but I feel like people are listening to different songs to me because I have no idea where the comments are coming from.
- Foxes. Foxes no. Why. You're better than this.
- My top four in QF3 are better than all of QF1 and QF2.
- Not usually a fan of electronic music but I'm loving Albania.
- QF4 was pretty strong too, although a lot of "good" songs and few "great" songs for me.
- Not expecting to qualify in either QFs honestly even though before the reviews I thought I was sure to qualify - y'all reviewing need to acquire taste.

GreekFan who usually likes my songs, has disliked them all this contest, except for my QF4 one, which I honestly can't see making it.

Will go through QF3 and QF4 now, review and vote

Y'all have a little over an hour to vote! Remember, failing to vote in a QF that you have a song in will result in your disqualification.

NETHERLANDS
Anouk sounds a lot younger in this song, the chorus is strong, fairly good opener overall.
GREEN LIGHT

SVALBARD
This is a fairly standard Scandinavian female ballad, it’s decent, but sort of passed me by.
YELLOW LIGHT

MOLDOVA
The ‘pam-pam-pam-pam’ bits are very catchy. This is nice and fun and I really like it.
GREEN LIGHT

ANDORRA
This collaboration is just awkward. The chorus is alright, but it’s making me a bit uncomfortable.
YELLOW LIGHT

AUSTRALIA
This doesn’t sound like it’s been adapted for headphones. Otherwise, it’s a great song.
GREEN LIGHT

GREENLAND
Medina’s had some quality songs, but this is a bit generic and predictable. Still passable though.
YELLOW LIGHT

IRAN
I feel like I’ve heard this before, but I doubt I have. It’s generic too, but not bad.
YELLOW LIGHT

WALES
Good to see Skinny Lister back after the injustice in the NF last time. Real and good music.
GREEN LIGHT

BELGIUM
Not sure why this counts as Belgium (great-great-great grandfather ), it’s nice but not her best.
YELLOW LIGHT

POLAND
This is a good find for Poland (another tedious link though…), not original but does its job well.
GREEN LIGHT

ITALY
This is a bit boring and lacks a hook. Having a great voice isn’t enough, the song counts a lot.
ORANGE LIGHT

ROMANIA
I came across when I had Romania, it didn’t really hold my attention then, but it is a nice song.
GREEN LIGHT

FRANCE
She’s overplayed on the radio here so I’m a bit tired of her, but this is a good song nonetheless.
GREEN LIGHT

CZECH REPUBLIC
This was off to a great start, the chorus is a bit hard on the ear, but it stands out in this samey QF.
YELLOW LIGHT

HUNGARY
Relaxing but uninteresting, goes nowhere unfortunately.
ORANGE LIGHT

WESTERN ASIA
This is different and I enjoyed it because I was bored of the rest. It’s infectious and fun at least.
YELLOW LIGHT

TURKEY
This is German af but has a slight Turkish sound to it too which I like. It’s a good song.
GREEN LIGHT

SPAIN
A nice & funky way to end the otherwise very samey QF (reminds me of SF2 at ESC this year ).
GREEN LIGHT

There were lots of "good" songs, but all very similar, and very few outstanding ones.

30 minute warning!!

I'm going to be out over lunch (my time), so results will happen at 9:30 similarly to the first 2 QFs.

As I am leaving right after votes close and not getting back until the SF results happen, I will be closing votes PROMPTLY at 7:30. It takes time to input votes, and any that come after the deadline will be cut.

LUXEMBOURG
A song for Luxembourg about how great the Netherlands are… It’s a cheerful start, but no.
ORANGE LIGHT

ALAND ISLANDS
Nice enough, but rather harmless too. It never really lifts to great heights, despite attempting to.
YELLOW LIGHT

ALGERIA
Now we’re getting to a higher level, this is a strong entry for Algeria.
GREEN LIGHT

FINLAND
I vaguely remember there being a song or two of hers I liked. This won’t be one, annoying.
ORANGE LIGHT

NEW ZEALAND
Awful noise. Stuff like this rarely ever does well with me and I really hope it doesn’t make it.
RED LIGHT

SWEDEN
This is pretty generic, a bit irritating too. Also, stop spelling ‘colours’ like an American.
YELLOW LIGHT

GIBRALTAR
Another that’s a bit annoying, not completely up to Foxes’ standards but decent enough still.
YELLOW LIGHT

KALININGRAD
Typical Russian, and not even in a good sense. The "ah’s" are the only memorable thing too.
ORANGE LIGHT

NORTHERN IRELAND
Finally something solid again, another nice tune by Janet, which will no doubt do well.
GREEN LIGHT

FAROE ISLANDS
I heard this piece of noise before and I never wanted to hear it again. Now I had to unfortunately.
RED LIGHT

UKRAINE
This is more like it, it gets better as it goes, and I ended up very much enjoying it.
GREEN LIGHT

SLOVAKIA
This is strong too, very catchy and energetic. He looks evil though…
GREEN LIGHT

PORTUGAL
I like rap when it’s well done, and has a great chorus to go with it. This is the case here, I’m happy.
GREEN LIGHT

ESTONIA
This was a bit bland on the edges but it definitely isn’t bad, a cute little guitar ballad.
YELLOW LIGHT

LEBANON
Well, it’s Shakira so it couldn’t be a disaster. It’s a nice song and being in QF4 is good for it.
GREEN LIGHT

JERSEY
Yes, it’s from 2008, how terribly shocking. That doesn’t mean it can’t be good. This is good.
GREEN LIGHT

ALBANIA
If you consider the country, it’s not that bad. The electronic bits and the lack of a hook are though.
ORANGE LIGHT

BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA
This isn’t boring because it’s actually going somewhere. It’s a bit flat and repetitive though.
YELLOW LIGHT

First half was awful, second half was good. At least it was diverse so it was more interesting to listen to than QF3
