Just submitted my interest. It was terrible choosing the groups but I hope I get something I can work with. Does anyone else find the fact when looking for songs that are in the Eastern bloc it is flooded with dance upon dance upon dance tracks? I love dance tracks and would enter them most of the time but it s not very popular on here so it makes me feel conflicted when listening to one! haha

EDIT I think I am OK with counties
You know people complain about ancestry and using american artists etc, but you've just hit upon the reason why lol!!!!! Romania used to be nothing but club tracks because that is what they started to have international success with for example, but if you get the right record company youtube site etc, a lot of the 'bad' countries have much better music scenes these days.

To be fair, Albania is only just club tracks. For me, one of the worst countries to be drawn to.

Loving my good country. For my bad country, LOL.

Alright, everyone! It seems that people are starting to submit entries at a bit of a faster pace. As such, I will reveal the first four songs that will be competing in Christchurch! As always, these are in a completely random order based on what has been received.

Entry 1
GREECE: Despina Vandi - "Mia Anasa Makira Sou"
Despina has represented Greece once before to not the highest of critical acclaim. That was The Hague, though - will Christchurch spell a different tale for her and her country?

Entry 2
MALTA: Lauren Aquilina - "Kicks"
Lauren is no stranger to either the Maltese or the DSFE stage, having represented the nation state several times in the past. Will her newer sound and newer material bring Malta to newfound glory?

Entry 3
ENGLAND: Tom Odell - "Magnitised"
After a nearly spotless record, England has had trouble making it to the Grand Final as of late. Will Tom's first timer status be beginner's luck? Or, will England struggle to regain its former footing?

Entry 4
NETHERLANDS: Anouk - "Run Away Together"
Both Luxembourg and the Netherlands have had the honor of Anouk representing them in the past. Will this new entry from the blonde bombshell set a spark to the competition?

With that being said, how are people feeling about our first four entries?

Keep your sign-ups coming - it's great to have at least 17 people on the first day! I'll be on for a few more hours.

Despina Vandi is the ultimate greek goddess!
Also glad to see Lauren Aquilina back, there is something genuine about her that I really like.

The problem with getting an ex-communist country is that nearly all the native singers on Wikipedia are from opera

Nothing wrong with a bit of opera.... but I get it might not work here.

I'm torn, because the only good result I've had so far is with an English language song, but can't find any decent ones with my countries. I'm just going to choose songs I like, probably. One country down, one to go...

I think I found a song that can get to the final for my awful country. But, I'll hold back as I might find a winner on my second day of searching.

Good morning (my time, at least), everyone! To inspire you all to keep sending in entries, here are the next four countries that will be singing in Christchurch:

Entry 5
CZECH REPUBLIC: Thom Artway - "Blind Man"
The Czech Republic had a strong start in DSFE, but has struggled to match its opening success. How will Thom Artway, as a first-time singer, fare in Christchurch?

Entry 6
TASMANIA: Atlas Genius - "Molecules"
Tasmania has managed to be a step or two behind its larger companion, Australia, for each of the four contests it has been featured in so far. Atlas Genuis have a chance of stepping out of the shadow for the first time.

Entry 7
SPAIN: Ana Mena - "No Soy Como Tu Crees"
Spain is no stranger to either the Grand Finale or the winner's podium. With some big shoes to fill, how will Ana Mena's pop single fare?

Entry 8
CROATIA: Vlaho - "Home"
Croatia can be either a hit or a miss (last contest, for example, it was quite the success ). Vlaho is a new contender for the Croatian crown - will it spell similar success?

Post some reviews, people!

For those inspired to possess a third country - be on the look out for a post in about 20 minutes...

I've found a fantastic video for one of my countries... the song to go with it is good but probably not good enough, shame.

ALRIGHT EVERYONE LISTEN UP:

Here are some highly coveted countries that everyone obviously wants. If the word "everyone" describes you, that means you should pay attention. If you are interested in claiming ONE of the following countries as your own - and you really, really should - please send BethnalGreen and I (jag02010) BOTH the name of the country AND your entry for it.

First come, first served.

LEBANON
WESTERN ASIA
BOSNIA + HERZEGOVINA

Go go go!

All three extra countries were claimed in like, .000539 milliseconds. Congrats to those of you who swooped in for the kill! More might be posted later tonight...

Thom Artway didn't sound like a Czechian name, and I was right, he's recently adopted that stage name from Tomáš Maček (as whom he released some other songs). Interesting entry!

Greece: This starts off very promisingly with the guitars but I feel like she has one of those voices that I'll never really love. Nevertheless, this is a very good find for Greece and with a powerful chorus, I can see this doing quite well.

Malta: I saw this a couple of days ago and knew I'd be seeing it here shortly. I prefer this to her previous entries - the instrumental in this is particularly great, and she has a lovely voice. It's a little bit generic ballad but the chorus will help this stand out.

England: Sounds like someone's trying too hard to be Coldplay. This starts off quite generic for this style and I feel like I'm never really captivated by it but again, the chorus is strong albeit irritatingly repetitive. Nothing will beat his older stuff but this isn't bad.

Netherlands: This sounds quite weird to me, honestly. There's something I'm not keen on about this and I feel like it may be the fact that it's all a little bit messy. The chorus is the best part of the song but that's quite average to me.

Czech Republic: Another song that I knew would come up soon, this is a very strong song and I really like it. The verses build up to something that isn't quite delivered but I really like his voice and the chorus manages to be quite catchy.

Tasmania: Tasmania have never really done much for me and while I feel that this is strong and will probably do well, this isn't really my kind of thing. Having already heard two similar songs this appears to be quite forgettable - maybe I'll like it more as we get to the quarter finals but so far I'm not fussed.

Spain: Here we have the first quirky female song of the contest. It's fun, catchy and there's not much more I can ask for in a song like this. I'm not particularly keen on the random English lines thrown into the song but I'm sure they make sense in Spanish. Or not.

Croatia: Yay, another song I wanted to enter. A good find for Croatia, and one I'm sure will do well. Again a song that's not particularly my thing but I'm still liking it. It's listenable and the chorus makes it even better - I like it.

Favourites from these are Czech Republic and Croatia.

Devastated I missed out on the chance to explore the magical music scene of Bosnia.

Okay, so my "Italian Hymn" from last time went down a bomb, but you all should make a point of finding Black Cat, White Cat on your preferred film delivery service (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118843/). It's absolutely brilliant Balkan madness and has a great score!

(I went to a Swedish/Croatian wedding the other year. The Swedish bit was all lovey dovey, the Croatian bit was a huge band and everyone dancing like lunatics. The Balkans know how to party )

I don't doubt that I once witnessed a bunch of drunk bagpipe players from the army crash a wedding in a hotel in Kiev. I thought they might get beaten up but everyone loved it! It was quite a sight (and one of them nicked my camera and took a photo of what was underneath his kilt! Not worth the picture by way lol)

You'd need to have some form of magic to find anything audible from Bosnia.
