Just had an email from BT re the increase. As a sweetener they are putting my monthly usage up from 10Gb to 12Gb among other 'benefits'. One of these is BT Nuisance Call Protect which, when I clicked the link to find out more, dumped me on a page saying "Object Moved"!
I shall stay as I've got quite a good deal at the moment, when that ends, however........

My Broadband/Fibre contract is up in the end of July and was told i could only negotiate for a better deal from that month even though im not happy with the price rises. Is that correct or can i consider leaving talking to retentions now.

This was a phone call to 800150 customer service team.

It's Sky who make it hard or impossible to escape your contract without penalty when they put up prices, not BT.”

Ok I will look out for this when I get the email.

You can leave penalty free if you notify them you do not accept the price increase and will be migrating elsewhere. I imagine at that point they'd be willing to make you an offer.

My guess is the "offer" would consist of some extra service "free" for the next few months followed by an even bigger increase in charges.

They all do it, I'm not singling out BT for criticism.

Do you have to have received the letter or can you just sign up with anyone else.

Think all telecoms and tv providers have to allow you to cancel your contract within thirty days of any price increase, sent in writing or just published in the media.

Hi,
I'm thinking of leaving BT Broadband as they are putting the prices up.
If I ask for a PAC code will I have commited myself to leaving or could I just leave
it to run out (30 days) and continue the service if I change my mind? I didn't want to commit to leaving yet but thought If I ask for a PAC code they may give me a better deal?

I gather BT will not charge me to leave (even if still in contract) as there are no exit fees as the prices have risen
and this was not explained when I took out the contract.

Not at all, a PAC 'code' is for the use of your new provider, if you decide to go ahead and move. The move is all arranged by them and not by your existing provider - getting a PAC is not a cancellation or notice to cancel (make sure you don't do that!) so if you let it run out, nothing changes.

It's a MAC code isn't it for broadband...a PAC code is for transferring your mobile number.

Besides that you no longer need to obtain the code from your current supplier, when you sign up to a new supplier they sort all this out for you now.

I'm leaving BT & going with Virgin I'm not paying £32.50 for Infinity 2 for 50meg, I'll be paying £13.00 for 12 months for 100meg unlimited BT prices are a joke.

What are you paying for the additional 6 months....also don't forget Virgin throttle the speed, and if there are quite a few on the same cabinet at peak times your speed could be a hell of a lot less.

Can you leave and get back any "line rental saver"? My dad's LRS runs until August so I'm assuming that he should wait until then to change providers. He now has effectively 3 'cut off' points with his broadband contract, landline contract and LRS all expiring at different dates, so I think I will advise him to keep with BT until August, when he is clear of all contract commitments and his LRS expires.

Why are you on Infinity 2 if you can only get 50Mbps? Downgrade to New Infinity 1 and save £s without losing any download speed (although upload speed may be less).

Not sure I think it will be £46 with phone line rental, I'm going to pay the line rental up front for the year I have heard this about the speed but as long as I get something near enough 100meg I'm not bothered & I'm not bothered about pay tv so I shall see.

Im currently out of Contract with BT ive been with them for 5 years but just cant afford £45 per month. I did look at the latest BT prices and i could get it for £28 per month with 52mb .I could also go with Sky but i dont know what they are like with Broadband i do have my TV with them. Sadly i cant get Virgin in my Area so thats not an option.

Just had an email saying about prices going up and that you'll get the free speed upgrade soon. It also said they had an offer for me, so I logged in and Infinity 1 Unlimited is £10 a month - I'm paying £17 at the moment, so I'm pretty happy!

Apparently BT charge £55 for equipment if you leave, even if you send it back to them
However I've phoned them, and was given two different versions
One advisor said you did have to pay, then I was passed on to someone else and was told, no,you don't have to pay!

I have yet to get an email from BT.
I'm already on a sort of monthly discount for my Infinity 2 and BT TV entertainment max package so I don't know what else they could offer me.
I have been on Infinity since early 2011.
I have also been with BT TV over 2 years so the older style Youview box that I just use for Freeview and catch up tv in living room would be mine by now I would think. Other that I use for BT TV is the G4 box that I bought myself over a year ago from Currys.

I really don't understand all this angst. For those of you that have got the email does it not have this part included -

And here's a great deal available now

I logged into my account and found that I will be actually paying less for the next 12 months than I'm currently paying (providing a sign up to a new 12 month contract). I'm pretty pleased with BT's price rises.

The price increase was good for us because BT TV kept having faults all though the increase for TV is about 65p it's still an increase plus line rental & Infinity going up yet again , We have had Cable in my area since last year the way BT deliver broadband ie Infinity at the moment can't match Cable fibre to your home not through copper wire, I know people say Virgin throttle speed at peak times as long as we get around the 100meg who cares, I doubt I'll ever go for pay tv again anyway I have paid Virgin Line Rental Saver so a saving of £30 people who think that loyalty pays are just plain wrong there is no sentiment in Business & never will be do what is right for you in that case.

I also had an email from BT saying if i recontract for another year i'll avoid the price rises, and get a £5 reduction on my bill...

Then after completing that i had another email asking me if i'd like to preregister for a HH6 for free, so i did that too. This email was followed by another email asking if i'd like extend mobile package and have a free phone. I declined this one as i'm happy with my S5 mini and don't need a S7 Edge or something similarly chunky...

Overall i'm very happy with this chain of email spam

*Addendum : I now have a shiny new Sony Xperia M4 arriving on Wednesday and this pesky "price rise" had given me a £200+ phone for free and reduced my bill by £2.50 per month...

I'm actually quite chuffed by this and i've not made a single phone call pleading for free stuff, i've just marked any emails from BT as NOT SPAM and read what they sent me..

One thing I will say for BT, the connection is very good and rarely lost, and the phone line quality seems better than other providers too, no crackiling, but you pay for it.

Wow just checked my super offer from BT & can save a whole 40p a month if I renew for a further 18 months...having a laugh, don't think I will bother.
