Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus 2016
Lenovo may be about to announce the launch of the bargain busting Moto G series for 2016. The Moto G series has been a huge success for Lenovo with great specs, performance and price. Quote:
The event will be held in New Delhi on 17 May, and it will likely be for the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus smartphones. They are follow-ups to the third-generation Moto G, which was announced in July 2015. The Moto G4 is rumored to feature a 5.5-inch display with a 1080p resolution as well as an octa-core processor, such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 or 435. http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/1374...d-moto-g4-plus
It's also thought to pack 2GB of RAM and a 13 megapixel rear camera. As for the G4 Plus model, it is expected to feature a 16 megapixel rear camera. Leaked photographs and renders have suggested both phones will sport metal frames, and the G4 Plus might even come with a fingerprint scanner. Other than that, details are scarce at the moment. |

If it was 1080p at 5' then I would have happily bought this as a second phone, I'm done with phablets....even though my S7 isn't far off one.

Moto G announced The 2016 Moto G has been announced. Prices start at £169 to £199. Quote:
There are numerous changes from the 2015 G, but the most notable is the display. The G4 and G4 Plus have a 1080p 5.5-inch panel, which is a bump from the last phone's 720p 5-inch offering. The additional pixels are welcome, but the new screen makes the duo larger phones overall when compared to their predecessor. If you consider that the first Moto G (launched just two and a half years ago) had a 4.5-inch display, that's a significant increase in size for someone who's skipped a generation or two. http://www.engadget.com/2016/05/17/m...th-generation/
Powering that display is a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor paired with 2GB or 3GB of RAM depending on how much storage you opt for. Battery life will hopefully see an improvement too: the Moto G4 and G4 Plus have a bigger 3,000mAh battery and "TurboPower" functionality for fast charging. While the G4 and G4 Plus share the same basic spec, where they differ is in the details. The Plus has a fingerprint sensor and a 16-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture, "big pixels" and laser and phase detection autofocus. The regular G has a 13-megapixel sensor (likely the same as in the current G), and no biometric magic. Both have a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and will be customizable with the company's Moto Maker service. We don't have full details on the Moto G4 Play, but it's definitely going to be the cheapest of the three. It's got a 5-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 410 processor and a 2,800mAh battery. The vanilla Moto G4 comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. The G4 Plus will have the same, unless you go for the model with 32GB of storage, in which case you'll get 3GB of RAM. Those opting for a G with less storage will be happy to know the microSD slot remains, and now supports cards of up to 128GB. |

Wonder if this will be much of a step up from my old Galaxy S5?
The S5 is still going strong and I don't really have an issue with it although it would be nice to have a phone that has a warranty with it. |

The problem with 1080 on a 5.5" screen is DPI, Going by the Moto X Play everything was massive on screen but you had no more information on screen that you would with a 4" screen, total waste IMO

Far to big for me I think. Might still try in the hand in a shop. Shame because if it was only around the 5.2" size I might have considered it. I'm hoping the Moto G 3rd gen will come down it price (particularly the 16GB model). Then I might consider upgrading from my orignal Moto G 4G (not to make thing more confusing).

If you order from the Moto Maker UK site, you can get one for £120 right now. I bought one for my Girlfriend's birthday. The Moto Maker site is terrific, letting you choose back and trim colours, and gives free name engraving and personalised boot-up message.
Add these two voucher codes at checkout: SPRING16 & UKWELCOME10 to get discount. The one I ordered came in only 4 days-all the way from China too, post included. Absolute bargain. |

Each to their own but I think it's a shame that all phones seen to be getting bigger. I appreciate that maybe there is a bigger market for 5.5" phones. Would be nice to see someone going for the smaller phone market (like iphone SE). I'm sure there are a few but it seems the trend is over 5" now and Moto has been heading this way all the time.
Don't get why the standard and plus are the same size. Or have I got that wrong? |

It's weird. Seems the main difference is the camera, but you'd assume from the name that it meant physical size.
I do think Lenovo has lost the plot a bit. The Moto G has done so well (not so sure about the Moto E) but now the competition is releasing £75-150 devices with excellent specifications and features. Of course, the success will come down to how widely available the devices are. Will UK retailers and networks range all of the models or pick just one? And if just one, which one? |

I think there would be a good market for a good little power pack of a phone. Under 5". Dual sim with stock Android, a really, really good camera and nothing else. I would buy that right now.
But I guess the landscape is shifting fast with more EE / 3 800 and VO2 finally taking data seriously. If I could buy a really good, well built 4.5" dual sim phone running stock Android with a really good camera right now, I would snap it up. That's just me and might not be the case in 4 months time. |

Got an email from Moto today. Motomaker; Can't find the dual SIM option, is it standard? Wonder if there's a quality difference between the 13MP and 16MP camera? Is the fast charger just a 2A version?

These look close enough to replace the Moto X Play which I guess they'll be ditching soon. |
